heres my idea,,,for the front,,,i am going to use the 5 leaf packs, im going to spread the factory rear hanger tabs and mount the rear of the leaf that way. then for the front,im going to extend the frame, and put a hanger and my shackle up front. is this a good or bad idea? im open for suggestions

i'd move the rear spring hanger underneath the frame, for more flex. i did this when i went to d44's though so it was easy to do cause of the axle change. my .02

im not looking for tons of flex cause i dont need it where i wheel.i still dont know if i should put the shackle on the front or rear of the spring. im using FSJ shackles off a 78 cherokee. and someone told me that i need 41'' from rear spring mount hole to front spring mount hole. how true is this?

If you don't need tons of flex, then why go with YJ springs? Just use the stock springs in SPOA configuration and run with it. Hell of a lot cheaper, easier and less fabrication. Not to mention when your stock springs wear out, replacements are WAY easy to find.

I want lots of flex on my rig, which is why I'm planning on re-doing the suspension with either YJ components or doing a 1/4 elliptical in the rear. I run a very simple SOA setup in my YJ that flexs very well. I could get a little more flex out of it going to Wagoneer springs, but that is a lot of bother for just a little additional benefit.

Matt (make life less complicated, not more so)

even if you don't need major flex the YJ's ride a zillion times better than the stock Sammy springs. I still say go 5 leaf packs all around, I feel the 4 leafs are too soft even up front, maybe not as bad SPUA. Personally if I were to build another Sammy i'd probably go with some lifted YJ's SPUA instead of SPOA. The ride is just that much better.

I built a shackle reverse with YJ springs on my black Zuk shortly before it was stolen. The YJ springs are so soft, we really didn't care for the new setup. It really felt like it was diving going into corners and felt squirrely when braking hard.

The YJ springs ride great with a standard shackle up front arrangement. Having done both before, I'd lean toward shackles up front for sure.

If you're building it yourself, you might also want to offset the pin forward on the front axle a bit. This way you can minimize the frame extension and keep the approach angle nice and tight.

Keep in mind that your shackle length might need to reflect how you position the fixed end of the spring. Build a mount that hangs down a bit more, you may need a longer shackle to accomodate the pinion angle better.

When I did the shandard shackle YJ setup, I kept the fixed end of the spring pretty tight to the body and went with a shackle that was about 5" eye-to-eye I believe. Keep in mind this was about 95 or 96 though. Can't remember exactly what it was. On the front though I ended up shimming it back a couple degrees.

for now,,,as for the front,,,,i have the rear in the factory zuki mounts. for the front of the spring,i used a FSJ shackle and its mounted like 3 in below the frame. as for the rear,,,i cant use the factory tabs cause the yota axle hits the tank. so im having to move the rear axle forward some(like 4 in)

whats your wheel base going to be if you move it forward 4". lenghten it take out the gas tank and put it in behind the seats. if your putting in those axles i quess i can assume your going to want to run bigger tires. zuki are tippy as it is. bigger tires + same wheel base+ the lift to keep the body off the tires sounds more tippy to me
