Details on the Monster

Owner: Chad Stegall
Lumberton, Texas
Has Attempted to be voted in for Top Truck Since he Bought it

this samurai started as a 87 Loaded JXi, the samurai was in great shape, still had the carpet, no rust, and A/C.

Originally it was gonna get a spring over some D44s and like a 35 inch tire, nothing to extreme just enough strength to hava little bit of fun...

then he decided he wanted rockwells and 49s

Joe Pitts From Pitts Fab built the cage, suspension and Drivetrain mounts

the guys in texas built the steering setup and finished the details

Heres what it came out to be

2.5 Ton Rockwell Steer axles F/R
Rebuilt with Detroits

16" Fox Coilovers at all four corners
4 Link Front and Rear

130 inch Wheelbase

383 Small Block Stroker

700R4 Tranny

NP208

49 inch IROKS

Hydro Steering F/R

more pictures to come as it was being built but not to many...

ask away im sure either I or zukfreak can answer them for ya

I love that thing. I plan on doing F/R steering Rock's under a 4 Door Tracker and could use some insite. New to Rock's but learning. Thanks Jim

sweet, but the wheelbase looks a little long. not much of a sammy left in there. of course I'm not one to talk, I've only got half the body left of mine.....

I'm now wondering, if someone's gonna build a complete cage like that, (a subframe) and build a complete truck around it, why start with a sammy? with 49" tires on rockwells he was really close to just building a monster truck!!

Cut that "body" out form under that tube and you have a tube buggy, plain and simple.

No clue why someone would leave the zuk buried in there either...

The more and more full tube buggies that come on the scene, the more I like rigs like that. My "sammy" has around the same amount of body as that one, but I still like looks of it. If someone knew what they were looking for, they could still actually recognize that as a samurai (and to tell some Jeep guy that your Samurai is on rockwells, 49's and has a SB383 stroker under the hood must be tits!) :envy:

i agree that it's real hard to consider that a zuk anymore, but it really isn't anything else either. bottom line is that it is a cool rig.

I always thought it was based off your hood? Look's like a Zuk hood to me. Jim

Who bases it on the hood? If that were the case then confusedxj drives an F16 Falcon. Thats no zook anymore. Maybe he needed to keep certain recognizable parts like the targa bar and the hood in order to compete in a specific category.

I've always thought it was based on what body panels you were running myself (Zuk hood, firewall, targa, ect...), or what it started out life as.

you're right, maybe give an indicator of what it started as, but once you've completely replaced the powertrain, drivetrain, suspension, support frame and dimension... you have a frankenstein rig. Its not a samurai...not even a zook. It does provide an indicator of what kind of crazy nutjob must be in the driver seat!

pictures of this have been in four wheeler mag as a nomination for top truck. and it was for sale here a few years ago uncompleted.

this sami still has the frame/ hood and firewall and the tailgate was mood to behind the seats.

to answer the question of building a sami over something else, this project grew to its form,,, it was just sopposed to get D44s and some 35s.
