Finally got a Samurai!! and some ????
Ive been looking for a new ride for a while. Im a former Jeep guy. I wanted something small, simple and cheap. I decided to get a samurai.
Specs: 1987- Toyota axles with a locker in the front and welded rear 4.10s. YJ springs all around. 6.5 t-case gears. Exocage. 36'' tsl's. Beat to death! ![]() I need to know what TRE's these are because they in bad shape!! ![]() It also has some type of power steering. What is it off of? Is a kit? ![]() ![]() How do I ID the axles to know what year and 4 cyl or V6? I would like to re-gear this winter. I very pleased with it so far. Cant wait to take it out. Thanks in advance.

The TRE's are prolly FJ80. Lots of kits used those: http://www.marlincrawler.com/steerin...teer-kit-hilux
Steering box and pump are out of a tracker/sidekick. Pretty weak setup. A PSC pump would definitly help it, but most switch to Toyota IFS pickup steering gear. Takes a bit of fabrication to get that going though. I'd guess the axles are 4cyl. You need to look at the differential to tell. This will help. It has to do with the fins on the side of the diff. http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/ Looks like a fun rig. I also have the 4.10's, 6.5, and 36's. I would like a little more motor in high range. 1.6 Fuel injected might be a good upgrade.

That Track/Kick power steering will work good, not real strong but on 36s should alright. It does get hot as hell though so if you keep it put in a cooler.
Those FJ-80 tie-rod ends might be fine, they come raw steel and allot of guys don't bother to paint them. If that is just surface rust I wouldn't worry about it. That rig should bring you allot of fun.
