on the 50i, can you touch the work with the tip of the gun or do you have to have the stand off wheeled spacer? Thanks.

You can touch the tip of the gun to the metal, but what happens is the slag kicks back and ruins your tips faster. It is always a good idea to keep about 1/16 or 1/8 distance from the tip and the workpiece just to save your consumables life.

That is where the spacer comes in. Let us know if there is anything else.
