Very nice. Thanks too for the video that provides a great handle on what's in the kit.

1/8" = 19" max bending width
3/16" = 15" max bending width
1/4" = 12" max bending width
3/8" = 5" max bending width

Keep in mind that you are really pushing the design limitations of the HF press on 3/8" plate.

damn, I knew I should have spent a couple bucks more and got the 20 ton instead of the 12 ton. Nice looking product though.

what are the chances of this being able to bend a 15.5" long piece of .250 plate...

think it will be capeable of doing that? or is it out of the limits...

At the 12" mark you start to hit the bypass on the bottle jack, in addition the only thing moving is the top I-beam keeps bending.

At a minimum to do a 15.5" long piece of 1/4" your press will need some reinforcement.

FYI...

HF has the 20-ton on sale at $159. Toss in the 20% off coupon that is in damn near every car mag and the press is yours for $127. Cheap setup when combined with the kit.

Welded mine together yesterday. I tried it out on some scrap steel and it worked great.

I have one suggestion on assembly. Running those two long beads across the top of the base of the brake will likely cause a lot of welding deformation. Before I started making those welds, I temporarily tack welded the base of the brake to the edge of the heavy 3/4" piece. That kept the base nice and flat and din't allow it to bow up.

One other thing I did was to weld a flat washer on top op the two vertical 3/4" shafts to keep the center section from sliding off when I pick it up.

Nice work Troy.

Oliver.

The total width of this press brake is 22.125" wide. As long as the width of you press is this wide between the vertical posts it will fit.

If your press is narrower it would be easy to modify the parts in the kit to work for narrower hydraulic presses.

Thanks Troy

I was informed by a customer that Harbor Freight has came out with a new 20 ton press brake. The model # we are all familiar with is PN 32879, the new model PN is 32722.

I will post up and verify this press brake fits the new model.

Thanks again for the orders.

Sweet little press brake.

Couple of fab tips:

Sunex 20 Ton Press. This is bigger than the HF units, so cut off the two ears. Plan is to bend some 1/4" stock and weld in new ones.

My ram is 2" diameter, so need a different tube to center it. I did mill a 1/2" spot on the blade to show where center is for the ram. Below with a 3" wide mill (about 0.020" deep) to help eyeball parts getting centered. Paint would work fine for both these.

Drill and tap the 3/4" uprights in the end. Allows for a large washer and bolt to retain the washer. Hindsight, simple with a lathe before welding. Since I had already welded everything up.... uh used a drill press for drilling and tapping.

The setback bar is perfect for confirming the uprights are equal. Checked with a right angle, but the setback bar with those two 3/4" holes was a nice sanity check.

My Argon flow valve took a dump on me. No TIG for this job.... out came, drum roll, my trusty Meco O/A torch with the #7 (largest I have) tip. Long neck and O/A welded this beast up. Keeps the O/A fab skills up. I tack welded the blade to those 1" tubes, just not enough heat to run a bead (will do that later).

Watch for spring back, as the bottom is a 90 degree. With my 4130 plate (0.100") I got about a 87 degree bend. This is fine for what I need, but with some shim plates at the top of the "V" channel, should be able to get a nice 90 degree bend.

Nice product, add a little fab skills, and a decent press brake for 1/2 the price of a commercial unit (I.e. Northern Tools Press Brake... which runs about $330)

Overall I'll give it a thumbs up.

Tom

Tom,

Thanks for the review, it is good to know what other 20 ton presses this brake will fit.

Just to expand a little more - northern's shipping is $50 and it doesn't have the back stop which is a nice feature! Double bonus for me.
