Need Help Fast

Need to cut some pieces out tonight only to come home and find that the plasma won't come on.

What I have:
TM 2x4
Lincoln Pro-Cut 80
Machine Torch
Hand Torch

What the problem is:
Signal Generator tells the torch to fire, air comes on, no fire. Saftey light flashes once, but doesn't stay on.

Press air purge and safety light comes on solid and stays on until reset is pushed.

What I've Checked:
Tried changing consumables several times.
Turned on and off everything several times.
Checked cable end into machine.
Verified no water moisture in lines. (three water traps)
Hooked up hand torch and it works properly (to verify machine function)

Any Ideas? Really need to get this stuff cut tonight, but I'm at a loss

Came out 2hrs later and tried again...

It fired up and cut through about half the program and then stopped firing and is back to the way it was earlier

Have you checked your ground clamp to make sure you have a good clean connection?

It's hooked to the end of the sheet of aluminum. Everything looks fine. I even clamped to a piece 1/4 and tried to pierce that. Nothing.

No. I tried holding the purge down for a while trying to clear the lines or something and made sure to watch and it stays steady and constant wherever it's set.

Well no luck. Replaced all the water filters and couldn't get anything to work on a consistent basis.

Called TM. Didn't want to help because they don't recommend the Pro-Cut 80 to be used with the table. Something about by-passing the safety, but this machine doesn't have the safety stuff like the new ones do. It has a machine torch and is made to work with it. No problems, can't be mad it's not their machine.

Called Lincoln. Explained the whole thing to a tech. I could almost hear him shaking his head uh huh, uh huh followed by...sounds like the torch head is just wore out time for a new one. $900 for a new assembly or $300 for a new head plus local labor...um no!

Called local electrical place (Lincoln certified service center) Told him the situation and what Lincoln had to say (I think he actually chuckled a little) Said to bring it in Monday and they'll diagnose the problem and fix what needs to be fixed easy peasy.

Does your torch have a micro switch in it to tell the machine that the consumables are properly secured ? this has happened to me more than once. if so you may have to clean the switch and tighten the tip a little more.

Yes it does have something inside the head that trips the safety when the tip is loose, but it seems to be working properly.

On our hypertherm had a similar problem. What it turned out to be was the consumables were to tight. set the clamp so that it when everything was just barely snugged and problem was fixed. hopefully that helps.

On this one on the cap screws on and seals against an o-ring, says tighten firmly right on it. If I loosen it a little the safety light comes on and can't be reset until tightened.

Finally got it back from the local electrical repair place...said the head had some moisture build-up in it and replaced a couple o-rings. Guess I replaced the three in-line air filters after the damage was already done. Hopefully the new ones will do there job and prevent this from happening over and over.

The Procut uses a high frequency start which is most likely why it is working periodically. Is the table itself grounded?
