AR500, where to buy?

I'm having a hell of a time finding some AR500 plate. Making some spinning targets for a few guys and just need 24"x24" 1/4" thk.

Any of you's guy's ever buy any, and where?

And yes, I've called and emailed some steel suppliers around here and its not looking good.

For quoting purposes, what do you usually pay? I'm guessing a 24"x24" 1/4" at about $90. Thats just from looking at other similar size targets.

I had a hell of a time finding it last time I needed a sheet. I ended up getting it from a place that specializes in construction machinery. The problem they had is that a 4'x8' sheet is really small for them, and most of what they use is really thick. I needed 3/16" and apparently they get it in 10'x40' sheets

They did sell me a piece, but it was expensive and a pain. Good luck!

Boy! Guess I'm luckier than I thought. I just call my steel shop and I have a 4x4 3/8 inch thick plate of ar500 delivered for 280 bucks. Takes about two days and they deliver for free. Think I might get more now after listening to you all!

how big of a piece are you looking to get? where are you located, generally to have it shipped you would need to do 5 sheets of 4x8. However if you wanted to pick it up, you could pick it up locally from our az or norcal locations and not pay freight costs..thats the real killer of ar500. We buy it 1 step below the mill. slowly but surely we are working to buy direct from the mill which is 90 tons a month

all that being said, We could possibly come around under $500 delivered, if you want to arrange for shipping, i can cut and palletize your steel for you and the price would be $416 for a full 4x8. Steel prices went up 30% over the past 4 weeks so get it while its still cheap.

any of your major steel supply chains are going to charge upwards of $500 per sheet on small orders and you might be lucky to break unto the high $400's if you order in bulk.

Yea, they wanted a few hundred for a small plate. I've got a few other outs. Found some places that sell the drop for reasonable.

If I find some decent prices I will report back.

well look no further! Shipping is a tad expensive but our price is so low im sure it ends up beating your local steel yard by quite a bit

I agree, you's guy's prices are great. If I were local it wouldn't even be a conversation.

But shipping across the country kills it for me.

You guys local to cali and western states need to hit TFU up for your target material.

We could always cut the targets out for you and ship them to the end user. Just another option.

AR650 is now in stock! I can ship in 1/4, 1/2, and full 4x8 sheets or even 5x10 etc.

This stuff is hard...its rated at level 8 for armored vehicles and lab report shows it stopped a 308 at 15 feet without any penetration.

We have the following in stock in AR650 steel

16" chain gongs (2 in stock)
14" chain gongs (2 in stock)
12" chain gongs (4 in stock)
10" chain gongs (3 in stock)
8" chain gongs (4 in stock)
14" Bullseye bear (1 in stock)
50% IPSC (TFU style profile) (2 in stock)
