indexing on the 2x2

I am getting ready to build my water table. I am having a hard time figuring out where to drill my holes to allow for indexing. Does anyone have any dimensions for how far apart the holes need to be?

Don't have an exact number, but the next "set" of holes should be exactly 24" from the first one, to allow you to index within the machines limits. Look at the picture below for more information.

Also, the dimensions of someone elses 2x2 may not be exactly the same as yours, based on the cam follower location on the gantry, there is a bit of adjustment available.

Is the machine capable of traveling more than 24 inches. Because it would not seem like a good idea to have the machine move to its limits for indexing.
I want to put my machine on v-groove rollers so I can just pull a pin and index.

I thought they said in the pirate TV episode that its tool path is 24.25".

Well I know the machine can move more than 24" because mine did and it cut into part of the machine. Probably my fault but still irritating none the less.

The machine can move more than 24", just slightly on the gantry axis though.

It has hard stops at the end of each axis. You can just run into these hard stops. It was designed for that. You are not going to hurt it.
