TM1 improvements
I am Looking to improve my table and it's performance. what are some cost effective improvements that have been made to the TM1 systems.
has any one upgraded the Gantry to make it tighter or more rigid? How? how about the AVTHC? what are the recomended upgrades? just wondering. pictures would be great.

You can add additional cam brackets to the cassette to make it more sturdy, or a few customers have retrofitted their gantries with a slide and cassette operation to improve it's stability as well.
Also if you don't have it, the driveshaft to make the gantry driven on both sides is recommended. A good thread on CNC zone discussing the TM1 with upgrades other customers have done and some pictures: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93967 |

thanks for the link. i am over on CNCZone a little but there forum is too big to be immediately useful. i am definately going to put a drive shaft and another gear rack across the gantry.
a question i had was, what size linear slides are adequate for the x and y axis? thanks

The size would be related to the forces they encounter during operation. Plasma cutting forces are different then routing forces. Blackhollow used 15mm slides I believe, ours on the Torchmate 2 and 3 are 32mm slides. Adding more cassettes helps to distribute the load and can handle more.
I would not recommend linear slides for the long side of the table, because the alignment has to be extremely close otherwise they will force the gantry to conform, causing a lot of excess resistance. |
