Actual Cut Size of 2x2
I'm thinking about buying one of these tables, but I have a couple of questions before I make my decision.
Does this machine cut an actual 2' X 2' square? What is the recommended duty cycle for cutting full capacity (2X2) of this machine? Thanks for any help, Jeff |

Thanks for the answers guys. After emailing Joe Hoffman back and forth a couple of times, I called and put my deposit in yesterday.
I still have to get a plasma cutter. I'm going to try to find a used Hypertherm Power max 1000. I won't be cutting 3/8" a lot, but i don't want to be limited to 1/4". Any recommendations on any other cutters comparable to the Power Max 1000?? |

The Power Max 1000 looks to be a very nice machine and is what I would have purchased had I not bought the Plasma cutter before and realized that the 2x2 would really make my purchase super useful. However, I bought a Hobart 700i. There isn't a ton of info out there on the little machine but for being a 40A unit I have to admit that it does pretty decent. It more than likely would eat consumables if I cut thick material all day or ran a huge table but for a 2x2 just doing small sets of parts I figure It will work for the money.
I have been cutting 1/8 inch with it at 70 ipm at 30 amps and it cuts rather clean. These pictures are some of my early cuts and I have since really tuned it to an even better cut quality with very very little dross. ![]() And I have cut some 1/4" with it too and it cuts very clean with only minimal deflection. It pierces 1/4" easier than I expected it to also. ![]() And just for curiosity I threw some 1/2" on there the other night and ran an edge cut at 12 ipm. Slow I know, but it still cut it, and for the random 1/2" work I might do with it, it will suffice. Only downside is consumables aren't really on the shelf anywhere as of yet, but I can get them through my Fastenal pretty cheaply. ![]()

You can't miss with a Powermax unit from Hypertherm...if you are looking for used, watch for the Powermax600, or the Powermax1000. A used Powermax45 would be nice, but no one will part with these units, they are in very high demand! There are a lot of 600's and 1000's in the field, and they periodically pop up for sale. The Hypertherm advantages are: consumable life, cut speed, and of course....the best product support in the business.
Hobart makes good welders, I have an HH210, Hypertherm makes good plasma! Pics are powermax cuts on 3/8" steel, no dross removed, holes are within .005" tolerance. Jim Colt |

AlxJ64, It looks like your getting your machine pretty dialed in. I like the gusset with the tire tread! That's pretty cool. What size is it? The cuts inside the tread look good. Did you clean them up at all before the pic?
Jim, I'm going to look at a used Powermax 1000 on sunday. Is there anything to look out for, other than the obvious of whether it works or not? If it checks out ok, I'll be getting it. Those are beautiful cuts. If i can tune it to cut nearly as nice as those, I'll be extremely happy! |

The only issue I ever had with my 9 year old Powermax1000 is a leaky pressure regulator...but it lives in my unheated shop in NH. On a cold day when I turn on my compressor the regulator on the 1000 leks around the top adjusting net...just for about 20 seconds then it stops!
There is really nothing special to look for in a used 1000, there are probably 40,000 of them in the field, with no chronic issues. Jim |

Both of those pictures are un-touched cuts, actually, same for the 1/2" cut. Jim def has the nicer machine, but just throwing out the option for the smaller hobart. The gusset is a 3.5" x 3.5" leg gusset. I can send you the .dxf file if you are interested once you get your machine up and running.
