HF Compressed Air Dryer
Before I buy this, wanted to run it by you guys. HF has a coupon code ( GIFT20 ) for 20% off on online orders. That means I can get this for 80 off.
Shall I pick this up? or are there better options? I have a motorguard filter, but I think I still have moisture getting through. http://www.harborfreight.com/compres...yer-40211.html |

I tested mine out pretty good today... Input air temp 284*, output 50*. I hooked it up directly to the compressor, between the compressor and the tank, then I let the compressor run for 30-40 minutes with the tank valve open and around 90-100 psi the whole time. The water/oil seperator built in accumulated about 1.5" of water in the bottom of it during this time. It's about 3"? OD. Next i want to run the power off the air tank switch. So that when the tank kicks the compressor on/off, it also turns the refrigerated dryer on/off. No sense in making it run the entire time

If you buy this, there is a quick adjustment to be made - or at least on mine. I noticed that when the fan kicked on, the temp would drop considerably. So I adjusted the point where the fan kicks on. Now the air is still ~145*C going in, but the air going out is around 0-2*C, which is still low enough for the dew point and to pull water. I ran my plasma on purge for an hour straight. The compressor cycled 4 or 5 times and the air temp never got higher than that 0-2*C... Basically I set the fan low enough that it still cycles when the compressor is off. If you are looking at the control box (white box under the temp gauge), there are three phillips head screws. One in the top right, and then two in the middle'ish. The one on the left, was set at around 18, leave it. The one on the right was set at 10, I left it. The one on the top right was all the way down, so I simply raised it up to about the first white line. Left side of the box is for the compressor. Right side is for the fan. The screw on the top right I'm assuming is a fine adjustment for the one below it. They both do the same thing, trigger the fan on/off setting....

just my $.02, but if you have a fridge in your garage keeping beer cold, run a copper line (ive seen pvc before too) in the fridge and back out, and there you have the same thing. i have a coil of 1/2" or so copper probably 25' long or so, coiled to about 16" round sitting next to the beer on the shelf. i will try to attach pics if you are interested. i have had very good luck with this system, and i run my table quite a bit.

ya its quite easy. i drilled a couple holes in the side of the fridge, ran the lines through, then filled them with spray foam. i works great. the only moisture i have gotten at the cutter is a couple times in the last year when i have ran my table pretty much non stop for 12 or so hours a day. i would guess more length of copper would help this, but like i said it has only happened a couple times in the last year. my table runs probably15-20 hours a week.

I think I am going to convert one of my mini fridges here shortly, but I am going to try and put a drain at the bottom of the coil and maybe even stick some sort of fan in side the fridge to stir up the air.

I'm still loving mine... Works great, too. About everytime the compressor cycles, the drier shoots water out of it (auto drain)....

Keep in mind that Craigslist is a great place to find used air dryers....every auto body shop has one....and when they go out of business, often the equipment is sold off cheap.
I have an industrial quality regenerating dessicant dryer for sale...if anyone is interested. It can handle up to 35 cfm air flow, has two large dessicant cylinders that the air flow alternates through.....when one gets saturated it switches to the second one automatically...and then uses a small flow of dry air from that one to dry the dessicant in the second cylinder. They sell for about $2k...I'll let this go for $250....plus shipping from NH. I bought it (craigslist!) with another dryer and compressor that I'm planning to use in my shop...don't need this one!
