Windows 7 won't work with Torchmate to drivers?

Ok I just off the phone with tech support. I have been on and off the phone with them for a while now. Here is the story. I am just looking for my easiest sollution? Not complaining!
I bought new computer with windows 7 64 bit
picked up 4x4 tm2 with serial connection and 401a signal generator

My computer won't recognize the generator and I was told I won't be able to because the TM2 system is an older model and not compatible with windows 7

I am very bad with computers. What is the best way to overcome this. What does it take to change my computers operating system? Or is it necessary.

The first time I called they just want to to change settings in my computer from 32 to 64 bit but I wasn't given the driver cd with computer so I wasn't able to.

I am only posting to get some answers. I have no more time today to spend on it.

Thank you for reading and any help will be greatly appreciated!

Call support back and tell them you want to upgrade or replace the control box to a hammerhead box and you will be good to go. It will work via USB and will be recognized by your computer.

The 401a RS232 signal generators are not "recognized" by the computer in the terms of like a USB device. The Torchmate 2 software and serial port signal generator should be compatible with Windows 7 64 bit, as long as the computer has a native (built in) 9 pin serial port.

If it's not going online or not communicating with it, then I would assume that there is either a wrong setting in terms of which # serial port it's connected to (the only port may not always be #1) and should be easily rectified, or a connection/power issue at the signal generator.

If you can, give support a call and talk to me, Mike, and I should be able to narrow it down for ya.

I may be able to help you in terms of connection up to the torchmate box, but we will need a little more information in this. First of all most new computers with windows 7 dont have serial ports unless their business minded so if you are connecting via a usb to serial adapter this is probably your problem. What kind of computer are you using. I am pretty new to windows 7 but in general problems are still the same. If torchmates software and generator are able to run on windows 7 my guess would be either drivers or settings on your comuters serial port is all.

You can use a converter but because not all converters are created equal some are better than others as you have to install a driver for them to show up in Device Manager correctly.
