Cleanish '49 F-5 I think that the general idea is that most all of these need a 12 valve Cummings or something similar in them... What about the axles, brakes, steering? Something that you could really tow with for 5-8 hours, not just to the tractor show on Sunday's ![]() Just do a cab swap on a wrecked '99 f450 if that's what you want?

Axles are usually super low geared in the 6.XX and 7.XX. They usually have odd big 5 or 6 lug patterns with 20" 2 piece wheels. 1 piece 22.5's are hard to find but exist in some of those patterns. Or you've got spoke (dayton) wheels which are a pain in themselves.
Using modern axles usually have the wheels sticking out a bit. Brakes are big drums that stop ok but finding parts would be a mega pita. Usually no brake booster on any of the really old stuff. At least untl the 60's. Most likely no power steering on anything before the 60's and even then it's usually just an option. |

Eh..Might look a little odd on an f450 chassis. Going from a big straight frame truck with 40" tires to a glorified pickup truck. Not to mention f450's aren't exactly the best setup things drivetrain'wise.
There's a 55 2 ton in the Chevy section that kept the original frame and just swapped everything else for newer better parts. |
