Superduty D50 tech
So today I sheared the front pinion on my 2000 F250, 7.3L 35's and 3.73 gears. I assume the abuse I have put it through weakened it and today just wasn't its day, I gave it a little throttle up a rock and it popped and the drive shaft hit the ground
![]() How do I keep it from happening again? Will a lower gear ratio help prevent it or do I need to look at swapping in a 60? And no, I don't want to quit wheeling my Superduty.

I'd put in the 60. Housing, r&p, carrier, and inner shafts. You can recycle your outers since they are the same anyways.

Would just going to 4.56 gears prevent this failure from happening by relieving stress on the pinion or would it not help that much?
