I'm also considering a V10 with the same reasoning DRM stated earlier: I really only need towing capacity of a 3/4t (or 1t) twice a year or so. Also, I'm a bit worried that my reasoning is inline with DRM.

Anyhow, drove a '00 V10 today with 128k miles. Seems to have a slight tick at idle, and it seems like you can almost hear it in the dash/thru the dash when driving. Owner says it sat for 3 years in his barn with essentially no use (I don't see any evidence of rodent damage, on a related note). Possible valve issue?

I didn't have time to diagnose it further as this was just the initial kick-the-tires look. Not sure how worried I should be, and/or if this is a common problem w these motors?

Talked o a guy I work with today that has a V-10 crew 2wd. He claims about 12 in town and 14 highway. Has 220k on it. Only repairs were a rebuilt trans. Otherwise just regular maintenance.

Take that for what its worth.. Just hear say.

I have a V10 in this:

When it was stock it got around 11mpg (SUCKED ). 3 things help these engines:

Headers

Performance Y Pipe

Ditch the Cat

After doing those 3 things I was getting 16-18 mpg on the highway with the OEM tires. The exaust is so restricted from the factory it's crazy.

As of now, with 15 inches of lift, 44's, and 5.38 gears I am averaging 11 around town and 13-14 on the highway. Truck has 168,000 miles and no plug issues to speak of.

Someone mentioned earlier they are underpowered. This is true in some cases but seems to vary from engine to engine for some reason The motor in my truck has no issue lighting up the 44's from a dead stop (plenty of juice), yet I have driven some that felt like v6's . The point I am making is, drive the truck you are going to buy before making a decision on power as they are all different from my experience. My truck has had no problem taking 12k up Jellico Mountain on numerous occasions. It always gave me a smile to drop out in the fast lane and pass a diesel with this behind me:

We have an 01 2wd f350 and a 02 4wd f350. Both are put to shame powerwise by a stock K3500 CCLB with a gutless 6.0l. Both v10s have gotten a best of 11mpg. Hardly see less than 10 though, theyre super consistent there (ive gotten 9.9mpg at 80mph with a trailer and 10.9 at 60mph with a light load in the bed). Stock sized tires on both too.

Make sure and change the plugs. Ford wont use the fix kit anymore so either pay for the heads or find the kit and do it yourself.

Wonder if anyone is going to call you a a liar?

These numbers are pretty consistant with my experience with the v10.

I am pretty sure no one is going to believe the 13-14 posted above with 44 inch tires. Must be a cummins owner too.

Ummm NO.

I know it must sting to find a V10 owner that claims fuel mileage near what i claimed after you called me a liar, but thats no reason to get pissy about it.

Your friendly moderator is asking you to STFU unless you have info to add about the Ford V10 motor that the OP is asking about. We've heard your "limited experience", now move on.

Understood?
