?? for the diesel freaks
Stopped by the self service yard today, in the holding area but not in the yard to be picked at was a mid 80's Ford. I went in for a closer look. Thing has a 8.2 liter Detroit Diesel motor, or at least thats what the stickers say on the valve covers. Looks like has a turbo at the rear of the engine. It has all kinds of hoses under the hood, 3 spin on filters, a fuel heater, and a disposable propane tank mounted behind the radiator upside down. Looks like the trans is a 4 sp auto, at least that what the shifter says. Shifter looks like it came from the doner rig, says "Morse" on it.
The installation looks really clean, the guy who did it was a dam good fabracator. It has hydroboost brakes, I have seen more than a few Ford diesels in the yards, but they all had vaucum boosters. The reserviors are plastic and shaped differently from any GM stuff I have run across. Did some Ford diesels have factory hydroboost in that era? Now for the questions, what can you tell me about this engine? And what speculation on the type of trans? If it makes it to the yard intact I am thinking about grabbing the spin on filters and the fuel heater, but I really don't have any use for the rest unless it is worth some serious Bennies. |

Its in Blue Island, 143rd & Western ave. Just South of the city. I asked about the engine over on the diesel register and consesus was that it is a total POS. It still isn't in the yard, but when it hits I plan on grabbing up some of the remote filters, thing has 4 of them.
Its an F250 |
