Trailer build questions
I picked up a deal on some 2x4x3/16" rectangle tubing for the frame/tounge and 2.5x2.5x3/16" angle for crossmembers. I'm planning on a 20' deck car hauler, wrap around tounge, with wood deck. I'd like to use 7k lb axles but what kind of weight will the trailer frame be good for?
I like Brimy311's trailer and it will be similar to his. Here's a link. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...ht=tounge+wrap TIA, Stan. Last edited by StanMcMurrey; 10-27-2006 at 04:03 PM. |

Those are the materials that i used to build my trailer. So far the heaviest load that i hauled with it was 7 tons of clay/soil spread evenly on the deck. I use it often for hauling heavy loads and it is still dead straight.

14k lbs, that's good to know 85 Chevota. I read through your post months ago but couldn't find it yesterday. I didn't realize we got the same materials either. How long is your tounge and is the upper rail 1x2x? ?
Thanks, Stan. |

i made my tongue 50'' from the center of the ball to the front crossmember. I could have gone a little shorter, but at 50" i have plenty of room for jacknifing the trailer. The upper rail is 1x2x0.125". The standoffs between the frame and the rail are 3" 1x2. Without the rail the trailer would have folded up with the loads i have hauled. I would have used 6" channel if i was not going to use a rail.
