95 ctd

thinking about buying a 95 12v ctd, 4wd, dually, 5spd. what kind of milage would i be getting. and what kind of power would it be putting out. easy enough to squeeze somepower out of them, while still keeping the mileage? would you pay 5k for it? fairly good shape.

How many miles are on it? And how much power do you need?

Sounds like the price is right, As far as mileage my '96 auto gets about 19 on the hwy 17 combined.

mileage depends on a lot of things. First what's the rear end ratio? With 4.11 my truck averages about 16 - 18 depending on how I drive. Power? Sky is the limit with these engines and a lot of it can be done with basic tools. Stock it'll put out around 180 hp and 400 ish torque. With some simple mods you can easily double those numbers. Search this forum there is tons of information regarding upgrading 12v cummins engines

You can make tons of power, but your only going to get good fuel mileage if you keep your foot out of it. Thats a P-pumped 12V, so the power possibilities are easy and fairly cheap. That truck has an NV4500 which has a known problem with the 5th gear nut on the transmission. Do a search for "5th gear nut". Your front axle is another weak link, but can be fixed with a Lukes link.

Since its a dually it more than likely has 4.10's which won't get you the best fuel mileage unless you cruise at 60

x2 on how many miles? Also has he done any performance mods to it, or is it stock?

200k on that drive train is not bad at all, especially if its stock. Sounds like a decent deal to me! Try to drive it and find out how messed up the front end is. If it has had street tires on it and hasn't been abused the links in the front probably won't be too bad. You will know right away if they are shot though
