1500s can't pull for shit!
My 1995 GMC z71 w/ the stock 350 can't pull for shiat. It was going about 30 mph up a hill pulling my 78. Plus it dind't want to stop. I am going to have to make this 78 street legal if I want to get it to the mud races!

Yup. I had a '90 Z71 with a TBI 350 & I have only towed a couple of full-size trucks behind it. One was a Blazer on 1-ton running gear with 38.5's & a big-block. REALLY struggled pulling that. Truth be told, the truck was kind of marginal towing Jeeps & Toys. Totally overmatched hauling anything more. FWIW, my new 2500HD with the 6.0L towed my racer to & from Platte this past weekend at 75 MPH with the AC on

Chevy and GMC both, I've seen their 1/2 ton, I think of them as a 1/4 ton.

I've driven both, the 360 has always seemed to have more grunt than a 350. The other thing my truck has that I have noticed most trucks don't due to the owner not wanting it. 3.92 gears with 31" tires, and maybe its all in the gearing.
I haven't had a problem towing my Jeep, if I built a trailer that only weighed 1500lbs vs the 3,000 it is now, as well as having no plans on towing two jeeps on a trailer. The half ton would be staying around for a long time. It keeps up with everyone else that doesn't have a NEWER Cummins or Powerstroke under the hood. I have towed a better trailer, probably only weighed 6,000lbs between the Jeep and the trailer. The truck towed it like it wasn't even back there. that 9,000lb trailer, you know its back there, the truck doesn't accelerate real fast (never claimed it did), but gets up to 70-75 and does the mountain passes like that without much trouble. Even accelerates on a mountain pass. Truth be told, if I wasn't concerned about the automatic, and I didn't want to tow more. The truck would get a better exhaust, larger radiator, and ~4.20 gearing and I would be happy with towing that larger trailer. |

Dude, I recomend deleting that signature soon. That is gonna get you in trouble with the locals.
As for the truck, get a 3/4 ton or better yet, 1 ton. Any of the big three wont let you down, they are all good trucks...I mean, DODGES RULE, FORD'S DRULE!

Don't you know ??? When you run a motor with TBI , you need the powerchip. My '97 Tahoe doesn't have that problem....

Half ton trucks are glorified cars. I think I know the problem- get rid of some of this
stuff and your truck should handle it no prob-Moroso motor dress-up kit,home-made middle console, Pioneer components, Lund Visor, Chrome Roll Bar with 2 lights on roll bar and 4 backup lights on rear bumper, Chrome Grill, and Ladder Bars. I figure taking this shit off should lighten your rig up to where your truck should fly past the Powerstrokes and the Cummins boys!!! |

B: No one cares about a heavy duty bumper with a winch MOUNT. put a winch (8274) on it, and just say "8274" in your sig. We'll ALL know you have it mounted to something heavy duty. C: Why do you NEED 4 backup lights anyway? D: Chrome anything on the outside of your rig is ![]() Shorten your sig. Try: '78 K10, 10/14bolt, 8" susp/3" body, 39.5x18 Boggers, 402 with stuff.. Isn't that better? Oh yeah.. welcome

A half ton, does not a tow rig make.
Been there, tried that - bought the 1T 4dr and retired the 1/2T to daily driver duty. ![]() Night and day difference in stopping, going, and cornering. And on the motor thread.. my tired, carb'd 700lbs 345 SV 8cyl (Small V) pulls 14,500lbs just fine and get about 9.5mpg doing it. The 406cid SV I'm building will handle the load even better - which means it'll be time for a bigger trailer..
