Enclosed trailer caulk?
My 6x10 Pace enclosed trailer is leaking from the ceiling. The sheet metal is uneven in places allowing water to collect. The caulk like material is crazed badly in a couple spots letting the water drain into the interior. Not good for the gear in there.
Anything special about the caulk they use to build these things? A quick search here turned up a thread that says it is polyurethane. I am just spot fixing (hopefully). Is there any product you would suggest or any I should to avoid?

Silicon caulk worked on mine just fine. Got some good stuff from lowes (3M maybe)?

RV world uses dicor, it doesn't harden. I would use that. There is also a tape you can get called eternabond -it's good stuff, if you follow the instructions it will NOT come off without tools. I have 200' of it waiting to re-seam my RV.

x2 Use one of the RV caulks or the strip stuff suggested above, it's good stuff and is meant for what you're doing as opposed to the silicone you buy from Lowe's.
the key to getting it to last and seal properly is, as said above, cleaning ALL of the old stuff off and then cleaning it really well with something like thinner or kerosene to get any residue off, brake cleaner may also do the job well.

x2 on the Dicor and Eternabond. Good advice - good stuff. I have personally used both. Don't use silicone. Buy the tape from bestmateriels.com it is way cheaper than places like camping world.
Oops beat me to it, so I guess x3 instead of x2 Last edited by PatJ; 09-22-2009 at 08:47 PM. |

That camper made it through a solid week monsoon and stayed bone dry inside. We got the stuff at camping world, after talking to the service sup. and him telling us our camper just wasn't worth it for them to fix it, gave us all the advice needed to fix it ourselves. Then grabbed a can of the good stuff from the back and sold it to us. He actually told me the stuff they sell out front (sno coat) isn't that good. Thanks guys, I'm on the quest for it today. We had a massive rain storm last night and it really pointed out how much it was leaking/raining in there
![]() Nooooooo I was really hoping to half ass this It's all got to come off. There are several poor attempts at patching with silicone and the all the top seams are crazed. It would take more caulk to patch it all than to scrape and reapply.
