need recommendations on a good tool box for the dd/tow rig

I had the best tool box in the world on my last truck and should have pulled it, but I let it go when I sold the truck. So, now I am looking for a replacement.

I have an 02 f350 cc 8' bed with a gooseneck hitch. I want a steel box, extra width (30 inches), extra depth (from above the rail to the floorboard). I found 1 at the local truck hitch place for $800. woah there nilly! They used 14 guage steel, so it will allow me to hang things off of it, or place additional trays on the inside.

Is that about the best price you guys have seen and will it get in the way of the gooseneck? My 32' goose noses straight down over the hitch, so I think I am in the clear with that trailer, but I don't know about other goose receivers.

I posted this same question a few months ago. maybe a year now. I picked up a weatherguard tool box. It was worth every penny I paid. It is by far the nicest box I've seen besides a equal from K&R (or something like that). I had a Tractor supply box before and this is nothing like it. It's 20 times better and the weight is there to prove it. The diamond plate box must weigh every bit of 90 lbs empty.

Edit: yes, my buddy has a 08 F-350 CC/SB PSD with the 30" K&R box and it does not interfere with a gooseneck trailer. That seems high, I think I paid 600 something for mine. I'll have to dig around. Mine has the updated latches and the grommet in the side for hard wiring items. Check Craigslist for them as well I found several on there but I figured it's the last box I'm gonna buy unless I wreck my truck.

My vote is weatherguard.

No problem. I like my box, I didn't get the 30" because I f'ed up and got a 1/2 ton w/ the 5'8" bed. If I get a truck with a 8' bed I'll go to a 30" and sell this box (or give it to pops).

I picked mine up at Tractor Supply Co. It was listed as "damged" but I couldn't see where and I had a 20% off coupon so it worked out well for me. Upon review I was in the 500 dollar range for this box. They had quite a few 30"s with dust on them marked down. They said not a lot of people looked at them so they were trying to move them.

Gotta go with Weathergard homes.....I bought the Tractor Supply crap cus I couldn't afford WG at the time and it works ok, but the damn thing pops open on my half the time while I'm on the highway!!! PITA!!

The park system I worked for had nothing but WG in their trucks and the fleet guy used to talk Mopar with me all the time...he said at least 50% of the WG boxes outlasted the trucks....and let me tell you as a seasonal worker myself, we used to beat those boxes pretty hard.

Weather Guard.

I had a normal diamond plate delta and when I wanted a bigger crossover box I went with a Weather Guard I got off craigslist. One coat of paint later and it's still going good, I expect it to outlast my truck. Best $120 I've spent.
