I wrote the the Dexter's 'Ask the Expert' folks and got a reply as listed below. I haven't read into all of it, but here's the response:

Please revisit our website and click on the choice "Service Literature"
on the left side of the window. The Dexter Axle Operation Maintenance
Service Manual is available for viewing online by clicking on "View
Complete Catalog" under the Service Manual: 600 - 8,000 lbs. Capacity

The other option that we offer is to mail you a FREE copy of the same
manual directly to your home. Simply click on the "Order Service
Literature" from the "Service Literature" page and fill out the online

You will want to request LIT-001-00 and possibly include the Running
Gear Catalog LIT-122-00, and the Kit Catalog LIT-119-00 to help in
identifying and ordering parts. Your MHU axle is very similar to our
axle model D60 with 12 x 2" electric brakes.
Replacement seal kit is K71-305-00
Replacement outer bearing kit is K71-307-00
Replacement inner bearing kit is K71-390-00
Replacement complete brake assembly is K71-536-00 for your left hand
brake.
Replacement complete brake assembly is K71-537-00 for your right hand
brake.
or Replacement shoe & lining kit K71-048-00.
Replacement magnet kit K71-105-00.

You are correct that your axle is NOT the "one time use" axle that
everyone thinks it is. The axles with the bolt on brake are the utility
version which was very similar to the true mobile home axle with the
weld on brake.
