So since the weather has become cold my wifes FJ has become hard to steer. As you turn the wheel it will become hard to turn then wont return to center on its own. Its like having manual steering but intermittantly. As you are turning the wheel it feels like the power steering is on/off/on/off/on/off...
Fluid level is good and no whines.... Any Ideas?

It has to be in the fluid or delivery of the fluid. could be air in the lines for some reason or a line may have become crimped. I would do a thourough inspection of the the lines and maybe empty and relplace the fluid.
I have heard of this with Hydro assist but not with standard power steering.

Thanks, I am pretty sure I figured it out. Somebody must have put regular PS fluid in it prior to me owning it. I was looking at the fluid and it just didn't look right so I drained it and refilled it 3 times trying to get out as much as possible. Seems to be good for now.
