Looks like a dressed up 4runner to me. wish they'd do a removable top and solid axle guess they need the soccer mom sales though, instead of a real retro-style wheeling rig.

The rear door handle would be a PITA. Also for the rear gate. Always have to have 4 feet of clearance behind you. 4runner Cab, FJ Front end.

and I quote from the builder:
"I wanted to make the FJ Runner a lot more masculine, a lot more mean. Something that would make the FJ Cruiser look like a sissy" Nothing says masculine and mean like big rims and shiny paint ![]() I imagine that all the fab work to put an FJ front clip on a 4Runner body is complicated and time consuming (not disrespecting that) but where is the innovation behind putting an FJ clip on a 4Runner?

that is what happens you let an import car guy build an 'FJ cruiser'
it looks to me like a 4th gen runner with some FJ cruiser parts tacked onto it... rear door sucks and so does the double door handle thingy... simple truck or SUV with diesel and SFA will sell, not soccer mom numbers, but it will sell and should be cheap to design and build... .02 |

All that time and money, and the POS STILL doesn't have a solid front axle.
![]() What's the point?

I think those that don't like it feel it should be a wheeler, while those that do like it (myself included) feel it is just a stylish SUV.
I like it, but I don't consider it a hard core offroad truck. It would easily replace my 4WD Tahoe or my Grand Cherokee as a daily driver, moderate tow rig and Baja/desert exploration vehicle. Rockcrawling is not the only use for 4WD.

Absolutely true. However, Toyota already has all of these light-duty IFS 4x4's:
RAV4 Highlander 4Runner Tacoma Tundra Sequoia Land Cruiser RX350 GX470 LX470 The FJ Cruiser is the 4x4 they built to market towards the off-road crowd. It's the one they advertise heavily in the 4x4 magazines. It's the one they think competes against the Wrangler. But its 4x4 system and suspension are no different than their other light-duty 4x4's, and quite frankly under-built for the power and weight of the vehicle - especially when you factor trail use into its intended use. A 7.5" and 8" ring gear? Gimme a break! The diffs in my 80hp 2400lb Suzuki Sidekick are almost that big! Sorry I'm so bitter; I just really wanted to like the FJ. But real-world off-road use has confirmed the vehicle's on-paper deficiencies. I'll be sticking to my solid-axle Toyotas until they can design a better setup than my 1985 4Runner.

Toyota does know how to manufacture real offroad vehicles. Welcome to America where we get nothin' but shit. Overseas, you can still get a solid axle cruiser that seats up to 11 with factory snorkel and winch along with a choice of petrol and diesel powerplants. Go to the toyota website and click on the webpages for australia and europe. They make a ton of shit most Americans have never seen or heard of.

Exactly my point.
Toyota wanted a vehicle they could market towards off-roaders. And we got the FJ instead.

The 4Runner is listed above so now I am real confused. I look at it as a 4Runner with a new clip, not a 4 door FJ Cruiser or LandCruiser.

My point is that Toyota currently has 11 4x4's for sale in America, but not one with a pair of solid axles.

whats wrong with this one
LC 70 already available with 4 doors and solid axles, oh yeah a deisel engine too. Whats better is that Toyota already builds it. To bad we can't have it here

How hard/expensive would it be for Toyota to bring a vehicle like that to the US? Crash and emissions standards are the biggest hurtles for federalization, but if they take that into consideration when designing the vehicle, their additional cost would be minimal and they would sell a zillion of them here!
