Just bought F-Toy #13 (Lucky #13) 1-13-12 Friday the 13th. Want to start a thread on the rebuild. From what I found it was originally built 04-05 by Robert Sheppard, Mountian Toys. He doesnt have a lot of posts about the build here, just asking a few questions. He has more post on Marlin's site but did not go to deep over there. Here is the link to who I bought it from. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=986959 Another thread. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyota-formula-toy-forum/874558-ftoy-13-a.html
Here are the current specs.

Formula Toyota #13
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
DOM ftoy #13
duals
22r
5spd
5.71 F&R
welded rear
lock rite front
37" TSL
marlin hysteer
30spline longs
4 point harness's
push button start
GM 1wire alt
Redtop
TG 4" Springs Front
78 Chevy 1/2 Ton Rears (stock)

Pretty rough but functional and operational (somewhat). Starts right up (with a shot of either) Idles Great, Non-responsive for at least 10 minutes. Then the smoke starts to emit from the exhaust but you can finally give it gas and move. Missing RF Brake so they dont work the greatest. Transmission does shift smooth and so does both cases, when you can get the clutch to engage (bad master). Front Locker works, unless you loaded it then it ratchets. No gauges, tach thats not hooked up, starter button going bad. Got some work to do. I will post a few pics of its current condition.

You've got a bunch of work to do to it, but for what (I'm assuming) you paid for it, you got a great parts list!!

I've got a mixer and regulator if you want to convert it to propane. (parts, not a GotPropane kit). I was going to go propane with mine, but bought an EFI engine that already had a stripped-for-buggy wiring harness.

A few more pics.

The lastpic is of the road I traveled on for 20 miles then came across the sign. Probably the most twisted road Ive ever been on.

what are you going to do with it? rebuild from scratch? add parts? replace the 5.71s? arbs?

i had my 22r running so good that i could run inverted...sometimes it needed a shot of ether, but i was able to drive out of rolls. i had the ether in the cab and could spray it into the air filter from my seat, lol.

I know the guy you bought it from- I used to be at that place every day while we were building my other buddys rig (70 something courier in the yota section). I think the thing just ended up outside for a good while which seems to be confirmed by the minor problems.

Cant wait to see it going again!!:smokin:

Well since he is not a forum whore like myself. Here is some of his progress. Motor tranny and cases out. Cut the expanded metal from roof. Cutting floor and tunnel out. Next getting it ready for 2rz and inboarding springs.

Bought a complete PSC power assist sytem and bought some 4.7 gears just a couple days before going to KOH. Picked up the 2rz engine while there. Ended up loaning the injectors from the 2rz to the Marlin sponsored racer John James so he could get his Turbo'ed 3rz F-Toy running on race day. Here is his story on KOH. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1040501&page=3 While down at KOH I made arrangements to pick up some more parts. Picked up a complete dual case setup with 4.7's, 3" TG front springs (for my 85 x-cab DD/Wheeler), 30 spline longs all from Bob (great guy/seller) http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1042398 Worked on it about 5-6 hrs Sunday. Got roof cut off and ground smooth and most the floor out. Need to finish getting the tunnel and the firewall out. Change out the steering coulmn and move the pedals. Then put the 2rz and trans and cases back in for mock up of the new floors and pedal placements. :shaking: Alot of work to do.

If you look at this profile view of #24, you can see that while the perimeter bar pretty much runs flat from one side, around the back, and to the other side, it dips down about 2" around the hoodline:
Image

#13 looks like the builder set the chassis on the frame, then pulled that 2" upward so the perimeter bar is almost level.
Image

It looks like that slope exists in the short run between the base of the a-pillar bar and the top of the tube coming up from the side panel--and then the hood tube is pushed upward.

Red is a straight line; green is where it "should" be?

Progress going a little slow.

Its been cold and I have been feeling a little under the weather the last couple of weeks. I did manage to get the rest of the floor boards, firewall and trans tunnel removed. Bought some tires and wheels from http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1020146&highlight=iroks+tr Sold the wheels and bought a set of these https://www.racelinewheels.com/p-680-rt233-al-monster.aspx
I need to mate the engine and trans so I can mock up the new floor boards and pedal placement. Hopefully the weather stays nice so I can get back to work on it. :D

I haven't tried Pitbulls yet, but for anywhere outside of solid rock trails (Hammers, Rubicon) where sticky Krawlers excel, Iroks are tough to beat!!

I used to be skeered of 39.5's on Toy axles, but have a few friends running them under full-bodied Toyotas. They should live well under an FToy. :smokin:
