carnage list from pro rocks

There was more breakage at this comp than Ive seen at the previous comps.
I thought a list might help those still building

1-front out put
1-rear out put
2-HP front gear seats, 1 4.10 & 1 5.29?
1 or 2 MTRS
2 Profields
1 hub (tooken out by profield)
1 rear driveshaft (stock)
1 radiator smashed from lack of protection, but still useable

Thats all I can remember.

I got it in friday, no time to even paint it! It looks BAD ASS!!! I have to say I had a little more confidence doing full throttle launches
Thanks for the great service and comunication.
Hobie was saying your thinking about stepping up to support the class.

What ended up being bend in the rear Matt? Something was making the rear axle turn 3 inches to the right.

Team Tin Benders carnage list.

1. Transfer case front output (???)
2. 3 MT/R tires (2 sidewall puncture, 1 big gash)

I'm not quite sure what was going on this weekend but this is the first time ever in 6 years of extreeme rock crawling that I have blown a tire (sorry Todd ).
As for the transfer case, Who knows.
Hopefully this kind of breakage is over though.

How are the high pinions breaking? I just picked one up in the 4.10 flavor and now a little concerned.

I finally sold mine after doing 3 R&P. Todd's hasn't broke yet and it has 4.10's. If it was me, I would put heat treated/cryo'd 5.29's in the high pinion and run it.

me too...

I wonder why they are blowing so easy in reverse, when the lowpinions are always ran in reverse when in the front going forward.

Pretty sure Heywood has put some hard mileage on his since he ran them last year as well. I dunno, no I am rethinking this whole thing...

The problem isn't just using reverse, it is when the buggy is pointed downhill and your trying to back up. All the weight is on the front end and then your using the week side of the gear to back up. When the low pinion third is in the front going forward, yes it's running on the week side of the gear, but for the most part the majority of the weight load in a stressed situation (like the comp courses) is on the rear axle.

I found a really good balance running cryoed 4:88s. I don't know how cryoed 5:29's work because when I was breaking 5:29's I didn't know about the amazing benifits of cryo yet. So I switched to 4:10's only to start breaking t-case's. After like 3 output shaft failures I decided I needed to relieve some of the torque from the t-case. Going to Cryoed 4:88's did just that.

Good luck, breaking sucks especially in comps.

Ahhh.....(lightbulb) Well, that makes sense...Well, gonna run what I got till it breaks I guess. Will have to do my homework on the cryo stuff and start learning to set up my own gears.

Traded my ARB for a HP Elocker for the front end in 4.10s

Isn't it fun Pook? Learnin' something all the time. Building these things is not an easy task by anymeans..

Ill be continuing to run HP Elock 4.10s
I havent broke enough yet to change. Ive had stock 4.10s in the rear for years, and have even broken two rearshafts with them.
Im pretty sure my HP broke going foward.
Also changing ratios would mean not only changing the two in the rig, but the two spares also.
As long as Tim is there to pull out the stuck birfs, changing 3rds isint too bad Even when its snowing
Deffinatly gonna look into cryoing.

Good to hear and we have several 4.10 diffs around also so changing ratios is not something I really want to do yet.

Watching (and kinda helping) you and Brandon swap the third while it was snowing was very entertaning by the way

Last year at the Jambo comp broke the front on an uphill climb out. Put in cyro'd 4.10's, so far so good. John, we need to figure out the tire thing, I'll give you a call this weekend.

It appears that when they winched from my right rear shackle plate it bent the shackle bolts and plates. It also looks like the frame could be twicked a little also.

I have the buggy on the lift now. I will be replacing the suspesion all the around (new springs, bushings and shackle assemblies). I will be switching from the 4.10 gears to 5.29's. I am going to stick with the hi-pinion for now, but my confidence is very low right now with the hi-pinion due to breaking it twice. I have rebuilt the t-case and also another one for backup.

The following replacement parts will be available for the next comp.

1. Drivelines.
2. 2 complete 5.29 diffs with detroits.
3. Extra T-case
4. Shackle assemblies.
5. 1.5" ram.
6. 1 complete hi-steer kit.
7. 2 rear outputs.
8. 2 front outputs.
9. Multiple Power Tanks.
10. Rear axles short and long.
11. Front axles inner/outers.

I want TG to be the central repair point for all F-Toys. Please let me know what else you would like us to have on hand.

Thanks,
Matt

You going to have a press to do the bearings, or have bearings already installed on all the spares?

Don't forget spindles and hubs. Maybe knuckles, or an extractor set and steering arm studs. Maybe some break lines and all fluids...man, this could get out of control trying to bring spare everything. I know, just bring a couple spare turn key f-toys

Oh, and Sean did break the HP 4.10's going forward. But it was climbing an undercut ledge with the buggy downhill at the front a bit. Both tires in the undercut at the same time. Tried crawling a bunch. Then a few 2nd or 3rd gear bumps searching for traction. Right before it blew up, I was pretty sure something was gonna go, but we couldn't get into a better position.
