39's on Comp. F-toy?
Anyone running 39" rubber in comps? Thinking about stepping up to bigger meat with everything being chromo now. Would never have tried it with my 4-runner. But with lighter weight of the F-toy it seems like it might be possible. That's still a whole lot of leverage against the toy drivetrain, especially when your hammering. Let's hear your thoughts.
I thought someone out there was running 39's? Anyone?

The only thing I'm missing is the output shaft. I think it might actually be able to handle a little flogging.

Ghettowheeler has 39" Iroks on his F-Toy, but hasn't competed with them. He had to alter the chassis to fit them. Camo had 39's for a short time, but never competed in them either, I believe.
Seams everyone competing runs 36-38" but I am considering running exhibition with my 42's You should be able to run 39's with minimal breakage, just fitting them will be a problem. Sean's 38" SX's rub a little, so I bet you'd need a tall rig or wide axles to fit them. |

I am currently running 39.5 Iroks on the 4runner and plan to use those on the F-toy. I hammer the runner pretty hard http://www.orvpark.com/multimedia/dozer-hill.asp ...this was with the 38 sx's but I don't drive any different with the Iroks. I broke 1 short inner birf elim and that was my fault. I'll be using Bobby's 30 spliners and an auto trans so maybe they'll hold up ok.
We'll see. I'll take a couple pics and start my build up thread later this week.

The outer-lower bar really limits tire choices unless you mount the chassis way up high, limit your suspension travel, or strech the wheel base way out.
We would like to put on 39's on Matt's FT but the frame limits us to the 37's we have on now. They allready get way into the lower bars. |

Ghettowheeler,
What springs are you using? My chassis sits 2" above the frame rail and I have 4" lift springs. I wonder if I installed some bump stops I would avoid hitting the rear bars. But then it would severly limit upward travel. Also, what WB are you running? I was doing some measurements and it looks like the tires will hit at the front of the tire unless I stretch my WB a little. I think I'm sitting close to 107" Maybe less. Also, what backspacing are you running? I almost rub with my 37's and 1.5" wheel spacers. Thanks for the help.

After doing a few measurements, I think I would have to move the rear back quite a bit.

I have had 39.5 X 13.5 X 17 IROKS on my buggy since the very beginning. Never looked back. I have to run front wheel spacers to be able to turn at all! And I built the chassis up high from the start for headroom. |

Well, I was going to add a picture, but lazy Lance hasn't given my star back.
I sent him the money almost 2 months ago, and they cashed the check, but still no star.If someone else wants to post 'em for me, send me an e-mail: ltcdds@pacbell.net |

Todd C,
What height is your chassis above your frame? Also, what's your WB? We should hit Hollister some time. Didn't know there was another F-toy in the area.

I'm going in the morning (Sunday)! Come AWN. I'll have to take some measurements for you. I'm not just in the area, I'm only about four miles towards town from Hollister Hills! Just off Cienega Road. Cell phone: 831-801-3924 |

2 more of Todd's rig. Are your rear springs in board? Looks like you might not have the flex that i'm anticipating but a little hard to tell from these pics and your chassis looks a little high on the frame compared to others i've seen.

Rear springs are AllPro from about 4 years ago. I removed the shortest leaf in order to get a little more flex. I don't feel as though I've been limited too much by not inboarding them. My rig has been so fun and so dependable that most of the time I have just used and enjoyed it. Don't forget, my Formula Toy has been running and pretty much in the same form for over 2 years. Even though Lisa's and Re:Todd's have been done a little longer, they have taken them back apart and rebuilt and changed them a lot more than I have. |
