A few weeks ago I had a little rollover while sliding sideways at speed into desertoys driveway, rig got bent up pretty good.

From the front it's a little hard to see unless you know what to look for.

The passenger side at the a-pillar was bent down close to 3/4".

That bend transfered all the way down to the bottom tube and broke off the front-most side bracing tube.

desertoy had a couple pieces of I beam layed into the slab of his shop floor so we chained the chassis down to that.

Added a few blocks, a 20 ton bottle jack and went to town.

A chain under 20 tons of pressure makes a loud noise when it breakes, this happened four times

After we got the side straightened out we tackled the a-pillar. Took a Hi-Lift and ran it diagonaly across the cockpit to the bent section of tube and went back to town.

After all that is was pretty damn straight

Had to handle a couple other small repairs, and toss on the new wheels and tires, button it all up.

I bent up one of the wheels pretty bad in the crash, but Mike Wazowski bought them for his F-Toy.

I meant to paint it during this summer but d-toy and I still have work to do on both our rigs (and time just got away), so it looks like we'll wheel them this season then tear them down after the Bender Jambo

I have all ways thought those chassis needed more support for the a pillars. Ever thought about adding another tube there? Maybe even more support all the way down to the slider/rocker bar? Sure wouldn't hurt.

Read unbending benttoys f-toy. Desert-toy talks about more braceing and why to much is not a good idea.

I didn't say to go crazy with the tubes. Alot of the comp buggies with a similar style roof line run a double A pillar.

Jack,

I agree with you that the A pillar on the X-Chassis and F-toys could be stronger. They seem to have less gusseting and triangulation in the roof than most others. If the owners are happy with them I guess they are good enough.

Was it the square tube that broke? Was it the weld or did the tube give out?
John, do you think a tube like this would help with some of the roof issues like this and Benttoy's rig?

Or is it a waste of time?If it would work, would it have roughly the same effect if it was moved about 5-7 inches to the left in the picture to make it easier to get in and out?

This is what Im doing. I have a grab handle that is partially in the picture. I think it will be about the same as having the bar where you do.
