F-Toy Rear spring Hangers

I Got to be at pusu and saw a f-toy with rear shackle hangers mounted on top of the rear cross member and was wondering what the advantage was other than ground clearance? Also, is this a legal mod for the class? thanks

yes its a legal mod. we are allowed to inboard our rear springs to the width of the front springs. while we are at it, we tuck them up inside the frame so they dont hang down.

Just to make sure we are all on the same page. Are we talking about shackles mounted to the top of the rear crossmember, but mounted in the conventional (toyota) way, or like the Deschamps shackle configuration? And just for clarification, is the Deschamps shackle set-up considered F-toy legal?

yes.

the rules state shackle on one end of a 1/2 ellipcitcal and sold mount on the other end.

So are you incorporating that into your re-build?

Is there anymore info on that style setup? I have tried searching before, but didn't have much luck. I found it in Camo's buildup, but I didn't see much details on it and what the advantages were.

Thanks.

there are only 2 ftoys with that setup, both are different. one is the deschamps, and the other is team "mikes".

departure angle and other things are the advantages....but it also depends on spring length and so forth. there's alot of variables. i would check with some dessert racers to get the fully skinny on that shackle setup.

Dalton fab did the rear shackles on our F-TOY like the ones Camo has. If you can find the post title unbending benttoys F-TOY they showed all the work they did

The TINBENDER Raffle Rig has that set-up, as does Garry Halls I believe.

This is Gary Halls, right?

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the shackles being flipped completly upside down like the Deschamps. I can't find a picture of it anywhere.

Yah, that is Gary's. No chance of inverting the shackle and breaking a spring set up like this. Keeps it a little lower, too. Flipped shackles would be way lower.

Does anyone have any pics of these inverted shackles? I've seen them on desert trucks, and they're standard fair on most full-size's stock, but I'm curious to see how they look and function on a F-toy and how low the thing would have to be to use them.

really low. i think its cool, but it would take up some of my trunk space and i dont want to do that. my ftoy is a trail rig first

Please understand that the Deschamps shackle configuration is legal, but their suspension link configuration is not legal. Actually, without the suspension link, the shackle configuration would not work so the whole thing will be changed for 2007.

Keep it simple and it will be legal. If you have to study the letter of the rules to see if your idea will be legal you are probably in the wrong class. This class is based on a stock Toyota pickup.

What he said. I'm assuming it's an inverted shackle like a Chevy: The bottom end bolts to the frame, and the upper end to the spring... The shackle is slanted toward the FRONT of the rig.

I know there's some video of it on one of the TGTV's. Can't remember which one.

ya, I understand. I just want to make sure it clear so others just starting off don't build outside the rules thinking it's okay.
