Street Legal?

Anyone made their F-Toy street legal? I want one for dual purpose. I think all that's needed is a windshield, turn signals/brake/head lights, and a horn.

Plus fenders, mirrors, and wipers, depending on what state you're in.

If you register it under a custom construction just mirrors, wipers and some mud flaps. Best thing to do is contact the highway patrol for more details of what you will need.

Just make sure you dont live in the peoples republic of California, if you do I would say no chance your gonna need a trailer. I know its pretty easy in CO, AZ, NM, UT, WY, and MT.

CO, we will need turn signals, brake lights, high/lo headlights, marker lights, windsheild, wipers, horn, Im not sure about gas tank requirements. The lights have to be DOT. The makers are the only conrern for being out at widest points of vehicle. With the tires way out, Im not sure what they will want there. And yes, I am currently planning to plate ours.

You may want to varify the windshield.
When I was wheeling in Montrose, my buddies that live there say that if no windshield, eye protection is needed for the driver only for street legal buggies.

ij oregon it can be a pain

but the biggest draw back is tires have to be covered and insurance street type need to drive on street

mine still has the toyota plates which i will use on trailer ride that need street leagl plates still insurade as 84 toyota left the fram number on frame also to help them figure it out

still questionable at best

theres a big difference between street legal and street driven. my rig was nowhere near street legal (missing marker lights, cracked windshield, lack of tire coverage, i could go on), yet i still drove it and wasnt hassled. presentation is key. im willing to bet frydude could cruise around town with mudflaps and googles and wouldnt get hassled too much. skinned with a truck or runner panels it looks like a caged truck. if he threw a bed panel on there it would just look half the prerunners runnin around socal. in cali the biggest problem will be smog and insurance. my next build is still up in the air, if i could find a presmog toyota truck i would build it just like frydude and get a windshield. i have a buddy who is convince on towin his cherokee on every trip we went on. it was a pain the ass. was livin in riverside and wheelin in big bear, come on ... get in rig and lets go. that is the only reason i wont built a green sticker rig.

Hell were old school in KS, don't need fenders mudflaps, or windsheild, (but a wiper is required ) & for head lights 55w driving lights will work. & i belive you can still use hand signals.

Odd, not with the cops I have talked to... I know I need wipers, so that would be interesting. Besides, planning windhield anyway. Snow at 40mph is wicked cold, and hurts. Not to mention when a tire gets traction and decides to toss a snowman into your lap!

I tried and am still trying to make mine street legal. However, after asking some local "patrollers" what they thought. They told me to expect to get pulled over often and possibly having it impounded. So I'm going down the route of special construction right now. I have already started collecting all the little stuff to make legal. Cali. is pretty tuff on us on the freeways. Lots of hoops to jump through to get it street legal with the special construction license.

I think JRT's new panels would be the way to go to help make a ftoy alittle more stealthy on the street.

Cali sucks! In January I was threatened to be arrested if I was cought driving my truck again. The infraction was headlights 2" too high, and mudflaps. f*ckin chp.

where I am at in TX ya just need a horn, lights, and wipers.
You can run a plastic windscreen and just get a hand-crank wiper to 'beat the law'. horns are like 10 bucks at Harbor Freight. Or get the blingin' train horn from suicidedoors.com and go put the fear of god in people at the local Walmart parkin lot.
I just dont like the whole idea of hammering the rig on trails all day then driving down the street not knowing if something might give out.

Quit turning, and youll be fine. There are a ton of roads/trail out there you can get lost on. Ive made a few trips, way west of Bald, that I could not find where I was again.

Sounds like it's time to buy a GPS. I know mine has been well worth the money spent on it.
