Team Izzy F-Toy???
Since finishing the new rig and finding I need another capable rig for the family to wheel along in, but not having much money left over. And after watching the F-Toys prove the low and slow be the turtle theory @ the last 3 runnings of the great KOH race. I think am going to build an F-Toy.
I have most of the toyota parts I need laying around. (most of which is Daves but he will never miss it ) I don't intend to compete in it but will make it comp legalish so the we can run it if we want with a few changes. I have spent the last few days going through builds and the rule book so I have a some Idea of how to build it but any advise is appreciated along the way.Now to get a chassis and start the build. zack and I will tear down the donnor truck and strip the frame this upcoming week. wayne

Cool news Wayne. The Samurai isn't capable enough? Regardless, I'm happy to hear your building one as I know you'll come up with some cool ideas for it. I already wish I hadn't sold mine and I'll be getting a replacement as soon as we buy a house. Mike's been pimiping that Chromo chassis in his sig for a while now.
![]() You might as well build it comp legal. You're already going to the comps and you own a two car trailer. Is your oldest old enough to compete in WeRock yet? She seemed to do fine at the ProRock womens for a beginner.

Thanks guys, I will mostly bug you all about the rules and such. I don't want to reinvent the wheel just a nice capable rig that does not cost what the last one did. But I am not afraid to spend a bit of $ if it needs it.

I'm looking forward to your build!!! A lot of us started with Toys, then to FToys, then to comps (with only a few exceptions like Brian Ellinger). You're starting knowing comps; I'm interested to see what ideas you have in building your FToy!!
I'm with losekannon---they're a heckuva lot of fun!!

This is funny. This is the second person I know of pulling the trigger on an ftoy after KOH. The other decided to build an ftoy and sell his 300hp 44" tired, rear steer buggy, rather than try to put a rear seat in it!

No not Scott, and he's florescent green, it just fades. The other, bigger buggy in camp though.

Don't expect too much cutting edge engineering here. This will be a budget build with a little twist. Budget to me is a bit different, I like to build everything I can on a rig just to say I did and save money of course (I am a cheap Bastard). This is my biggest downfall in rig building because my time is very limited and another project is going to cut into my already limited schedule. So to me time is expensive right now, with that in mind I am gong to try to save time anywhere I can. Maybe not time off the build schedule but my time. It still may take a while to build it but I am really going to try to evaluate my time vs pay someone to do things. This will be a challenge for me but it should be fun to watch. I don't have a bunch of $ to spend but I have less time so we will see how it goes.
wayne Shut up "chupa" I am really going to try on this one

I have $7,000 in mine. I also built a lot of stuff on mine just to say I did, and save money (but ultimately, none of those decisions saved time, of course). I wouldn't consider anything on mine booty-fabbed, but none of it is high-end, either. I scrounged, traded, begged, bartered, and haggled most of the parts on my rig. I didn't start out with a donor rig, which was both good and bad. I didn't have a rig to pull all the "little" parts off of, like the go-pedal and cable, fuel and return lines, wiring, etc. On the other hand, I didn't have any electrical demons I didn't put in there myself! ![]() I'll probably drop another $500 into it making it comp-legal with rollover valves, shutoff switches, window nets, etc.
