Thanks!

I FINALLY got some 'wheeling time in this weekend at a place near me called The Farm. It's some private land ran by the Big Dixie Boggers. www.bigdixieboggers.com Check out the site for some pics of the place. It's pretty extreme for a southern place... The FToy FAR EXCEEDED my expectations. There were alot of major rigs there with major tires (well into the 50" range with rockwells) and I was able to follow them with ease. Hell, some had a hard time going up the rocks and I'd go behind them and crawl it like it was nothing. I did realise I need to do improvements, like making my steering turn sharper and adding a track bar (I did some hopping on some of the obsticles).

Any ways, I got some pics. I'll post more as they get posted by others on my local forum...

Me on the "Get Skinny" trail

Ok, after my last 'wheeling trip I realized I really need to get a grip on axle wrap. I hopped so bad on one of the rock faces that it bent a rear wheel. So, I decided on a trac bar.

For the components, I went to my friend Bud at Budbuilt. He hooked me up with one of his short bars, some heims, a couple of beefy shock mounts that I modified, and some hardware. I opened up the shock mounts to 3/4" and ground on them till they fit near the diff. For the front, I just used a short shackle to allow for axle movement so nothing will bind. I still have to tweak on it a bit because the shackle angle sucks, but it seems to work good and it doesn't limit my travel. I does hang down a bit lower than I'd like, but I may change how high the shackle mount is and lift it up a couple of inches.

PICS!!!

Well I managed to take it out again for another 'wheeling trip to The Farm in Lincolnton. The Big Dixie Boggers had another event that was open to the public, so I took advantage!

PICS!!

that trac bar will break in due time. no biggy. just build another one, but this time put more seperation between the links on the rear housing. and use 1.25" joints and .25" wall tubing.

I just used what Bud had lying around when I made that. Actually, I have to redo the "crossmember" that the rear of the seats and the trac bar used... First time out i broke the square stock at the track bar shackle mount. I just took it off for the rest of the trip... I have to make a much stronger crossmember.

Mine never broke and I only had one 5/8" heim on the frame end a, bushing on the frame end and two bushings about 6" apart on the housing. I have .120 wall sleeved with .120 wall. The only reason I think he would break a heim would be because he dragged it across some rocks. It's a wait to put heims on the axle end. They're not doing any twisting anyway.

Well it's been a while since I've posted anything on my build, and I've changed a few things...

I ditched the EFI on the buggy. It ran great, but there was just too much going on under the dash and around the motor with wiring, so I wanted to simplify everything. I took the plunge and went with a GotPropane kit that I traded for. It's installed and runs great! I definitely have to tune on it a bit, but I can tell i'll be really happy with it. I just need to get another tank.

PICS!!

Removed the EFI

All the things I no longer have to worry about

Cleaned up the motor a bit and painted it since I was this far down

GOTPROPANE

All installed...

Tanks behind the seats (need one more...)

Fits perfectly with plenty of room around the tank (hard to see, but there's room...).

do you feel like the hendrixs frame mounts are beef enough to take a hit? Been looking at building an ftoy and it seems like no one runs rock sliders etc

That's a 2-part answer...

On one hand, I think they'd do just fine against a rock. They aren't all that long, and with their thickness I believe they could take quite a bit before they'd bend.

On the other hand, I have yet to hit the lower tubes on the chassis on rocks. My last rig I STAYED on my sliders and the underneath of my truck, but now I only occasionally hit my frame. The clearance is much better than 'wheeling a full-body rig...

I picked up 522 from Ronnie this past Friday in Cookeville, TN. This rig was so clean I swear he never wheeled it. I'll start a thread for FT522 v2. Thanks Ronnie for a good deal on a clean rig.

Couldn't go to a more fitting owner! I hope it's as good to you as it was to me. I had a blast with it!
