60 or 80 Series??
I know its a noob question and yes I searched. I've done the CJ and XJ thing. Now I'm doing the Accord thing. Anyway, I have always loved the 60 series but have also seen some nice 80 series. I can look thru tech specs but what are the real world advantages of one over the other? I want to run atleast 33's for mild to mid level wheeling. I have 2 kids and 2 dogs we do exploring and Geocaching w/ a little 'wheelin' mixed in. Share your thoughts.
Thanks, Ryan

80 is newer with more creature comforts and modern advantages; efi, available selectable lockers, links, available 4 wheel discs, available full float rear.
One disadvantage I've found and heard of is that I cannot sleep comfortably in the back with how the second row seats fold up. I've heard this is possible in a 60, but that alone would not be enough for me to give up my 80.

I have a 1985 FJ60....and I have found an 80 Series local to me
My FJ60 has a MetalTech 8 point cage, sprung over, 4 wheel discs...stock drivetrain...needs some loving...but I am considering letting it go. If interested in a stout 60 Series, let me know

i've never had a 80 but I love the simplicity and ease of maintaince of a 60, and I can easily sleep in the back, If you want a no BS vehicle with manual everything on leaves, 9.5" R&P, stout as hell drivetrain, a 60 is the ticket !! with my OME suspension, it rides pretty dang smooth on forest service type roads.. have 3 buddies with xj's and we do light expedition type stuff i'm on 33x10.50 km2's auburn in the rear and 4.11's and its perfect for me..

my dream would be to have the 60 body on an 80 chassis....
having had 2 60's, 1 62, and 2 80's('91 & '93) I'd pick the 80. desmogged 60's might be easier to work on, but the 1FZ is actually pretty easy to work on, worst was the '91 80. all 3 of my 60 series were lifted. both 80's are lifted and on 35's. i prefer the ride of the 80's over the 60's. the main thing though, you can pick up an 80 with lockers, slap on the OME 2.5" lift and some 33's or 35's and your going places. 60 lifts are way more money, plus you gotta figure in the cost of lockers for the 60. |

imo, the 80 is best if you are not going to "crawl"
like others have said the efi is worth a lot and the selectable lockers are great. we take our kids out in our 80 all the time for day trips, exploring, rivers, etc. the only thing i dislike about the 80 is the distributor location and $$ to lift 6" |

I like where you can take your 80 if you're inclined to do so. Locked with a mild lift and an 80 is an incredible capable truck. I wouldn't call it a crawler by any means, but it's comfortable and can really go just about anywhere if you're not afraid of body damage.

80 series all the way. All you need is a mild/cheap lift and you are doing amazing things in these rigs.
