sssooooo close...yet so far.

Well I made the first attempt to back the cruiser out of the garage last night.

Exhaust is done (thanks again tex for the crossover idea, worked beautifully) I used chevy ram horns to a walker cross pipe to 3" exhaust tubing to the flowmaster at the rear.

Steering is done with one minor exception. It has a 5/8 heim joint on the pitman arm and I am going to ream out my other pitman arm to accept a chevy TRE.

Front end is done, gears, locker, new axle shafts, u-joints, bears, hubs and brakes.

Rear axle is done with the exception of the gears. Those will be done this weekend.

Motor is done, tranny/t-case and cross member are done.

Front suspension, outboarding springs is done. I have to box the bumper and some minor things.

Rear suspension is done. Mounting shocks, limit straps (yeah I said limit straps) and mounting my track bar will be done between now and this weekend.

I was stoked, ready to pull her out and see what she looks like outside.........but nooooooooooo the clutch slave had to take a shit on me. 6 months worth of time, way to much money to even add up, nearly causing a divorce (ok not that bad, but she still hates the garage time ) and a freaking $30 parts stops it from moving. DAMMIT!!!

Sweet doesn't even begin to describe it. Way freaking easy too. I got less than $100 into my exhaust and maybe about an hour or so in time. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY SWEET!

Oh and has a side note, I ended up using a Wilwood Master Cylinder from Summit. 7/8 bore with 1 and 7/16th throw. Seems to hold pressure great, Can't wait to test it out tonight. It was a VERY easy swap from the 69 Master that was in there before.

ummm.. PICS! I'd like to see that exhaust setup you've got...

That brake M/C seems kinda small.. I'm running a 1" bore MC with vented cruiser 4-pistons up front, and Monte calipers in the rear, and can almost bottom out the travel on the MC when I'm standing on the brakes...

Although, that throw seems pretty long... maybe that makes up for it?

been there, had that exact problem....spent a few weeks this summer working on the rig, pull it out of the drive, and the slave craps....pull out my spare and find out that the later small-bore slave and earlier large-bore slave do not run the same hose-size fitting....:o

Fortunately, I found a rebuild kit in my tool box, so I honed out the slave with 800grit and tossed that in....

So now do we get a debate over the merits of owning one that runs, very well, and turns heads...................or sits in the driveway ????
BTW ask my women how well I can "keep up"

Well, not everyone...had a problem like Glondark's on Sunday.
Loaded up the cruiser to go to San Angelo for some wheeling and when we got up their and unloaded her we couldn't get the trans in gear. Found out that the clutch would pull apart when pedal was pressed. The layers of the clutch would just pull away from each other...quess the small leak from the SM420 finally kick its ass.
Anyone know how to keep an early SM420 from leaking?

Joseph
