EZ locker
I was wondering inf anyone knew the clearences of an EZ locker when installed. Mine is unloading under torque and is getting really loud in right turns. I replaced the carrier but used the same shims\spacers between the carrier and axle gears. Also i was thinking the springs might be worn out. Any helpp would be great.
Thanx |

Call the manufacturer (Tractech is detriot stuff right?? I can never remember) They will send you a new set of springs/pins. I had this happen on my rig and called them up and talked him into sending me two sets. One to replace and one for spares.

IMO, the odds are the side gear shims are worn or too thin....IIRC, installation shows a specific measurement range for the space between the plates with the pins, and anything less than that allows for too little preload and it ratchets.
It's made worse with larger tires...my rear EZ-lock was fine with 33's but the first trip on 38's it was nasty, so I yanked it and put in a welded in the rear. My front is gonna be due for new shims soon, it's starting to occasionally give...

it'll still unlock, it just takes more to do it...those are tiny springs, would take a MUCH larger spring to keep it tight all the time.

I don't understand Detroit... they make one of the most bad ass lockers, but when it comes to the "lunchbox" locker...they absolutely SUCK! We've seen a few of these come through, all with the same problem! I've never heard this problem w/ LOCRITE... even from a cruiser guy thats ran one for 7 years! As a matter of fact, I remember "stealing" the clearance specs from my buddy w/ the lockrite because Detroit didn't provide! (.07-.012, I believe was the correct #'s) Any who... I had special shims made for mine, with literally no clearance... and it still persisted!
Threw it away and got the "real deal"
