I'm an FJ guy to the core, but I could have built three Sammis for what I have in the Cruiser

it depends on what you want it for. if you want it for looks or for and to run on the road then get the cruiser. they definately win the coolness factor. if you want to build a trail rig then start with the zuk. why? well you can build a killer trail rig out of a zuk for little $$$ and they will get it. slap a 6to1 t-case in it , lengthen it, and throw a set of mini toy axles or a set of waggy d44's with wrangler springs and get it. i have several guys i wheel with who have done this and their rigs running 36's will go where my built jeep would go. i was running v8 1ton's 42's and my rig cost 3 times as much to build. it also weighed 3 times as much. another thing to consider is towing the rig. the light weght sami's sure are easy to haul around. just my op.

I liked my Sammi except on the highway. Pedal to the floor at 65 mph and getting blown from lane to lane by minivans flying past. Cool trail rig, but every day I owned it I kicked myself for selling the 40 and as soon as I found another one, I sold the Sammi. It ain't the same.
It sure beats not wheelin though. Or driving a heep. but then isn't that a redundant statement?

yea but you have way more money in your zook than i do my cruiser. hell either one can be built into a fine trail rig. i have cruisers and zooks. some days the zook wins, some days the cruiser. but the cruiser has so much more room, it gets all the trail riding nowadays.

This weekend I had hard time desiding to buy an 1984 rust free all stock Sami SJ410.
I've posted a msg at Zuk board: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...hreadid=132451 My project vehicle is my '81 BJ44 and I was thinking to get Sami for a daily driver. Zuks are great trail machines but I believe they're not great everyday commuter car (being all stock with 970cc motor). I've decieded to keep my '81 327i BMW as a daily driver. Andrey

I have seen both do really well on the trail, and the sammy is way cheaper to build, but IMO, the sammy is a throw-away vehicle.
In 10 years, the cruiser will be even more rare, even more cool, and still basically intact, while the sammy will still be a $500 truck. Which is what makes them so great for trial running. I say keep both, and when you feel like driving around in something more substantial that a coke can, run the cruiser. I am only 6' tall, and feel like I am in a clown car when I ride in a sammy. If you ever do want out of projects, the sammy has really low resale. Not that a trail mangled cruiser is worth a mint..

I wouldn't go with the sj410, it has a 1000cc motor and a 4 speed, although the grille is cooler than a sami. Samis are super cheap to build and are definitely capable vehicles, they just aren't a cruiser. I have some pictures of early suzukis, they look a lot like mini cruisers. The really early models had a 2 cylinder two stroke engine. Man, I sound like samihead.
