WHy I hate my FJ 62 vol 1

I drive a truck for a few months then switch trucks. Allows me time to work on each one without the stress of needing it running right NOW!
Been driving my softop since Apr when the tags expired on the 62. Now that it is hot out I put a shackle lift on the 62, some OME shocks, fixed the P brake, general tune up, new tires,etc.... Got it to pass emissions and got a tag. As I was looking for a spot to park my softop I saw a leak under the RR diff, WTF?, got under there and it was gas. The lines that go from the pump inside the tank to the motor were rusted and decided to give up the ghost app: 15 minutes before I was to go home and show off the new lift ot the wife.
I have replaced and worked on everything possible on this POS and each time I get one thing fixed another breaks. I only paid $1200 for it so I guess I am still above water on it.
Moral of this rant is to check the fuel lines as they pass through the rubber insulated keepers that hold them to the frame/body. Great place for mud/salt to collect.

If the fuel lines rusted out, then the rear heater lines, the transmission cooler lines, and the brake lines are all suspect as well, as they are all steel and they are all exposed.

On my FJ62 the rear heater lines were toast when I bought it. The PO had just disconnected them. I replaced them with rubber heater hose in 15 minutes and now I got heat.

When I bought the truck the tranmission cooler lines had a leak. The $tealer wanted $1900 for the parts to replace the lines! I had custom made high pressure hydraulic-grade rubber lines made for less than $200.

I've had my eye on the fuel and brake lines ever since. Any minute now one or the other is bound to let loose. If I didn't have so many other maintenance and upgrade items on my list I would have replaced them by now.

Rust is a major enemy of these poor old trucks.

Must be hell to live on the East Coast... Rust what's that? Please explain for those of us in Cali. Like yooper said, I'd be planning to replace all of the lines if the fuel lines are that shot. Breaks especially.

I have replaced most of the other lines. The tranny lines went first followed by the heater lines. Sure, I expect it to happen eventually but what kills me is that it always seems to happen right as I get another part of it fixed. I bought 2 more 62s for parts. Thank god or i would be broke!

That is funny I have a 62 as well and I am on the east coast and no problems I just let the rear seal leak on the output of the T-case and nothing rusts

There is a lot to be said for the slow leak as a rust preventive.
