running wide tires

Anyone running tires in the 15.5 width with stock axles, soa? If so what backspacing are you running on yor rims? Lucked upon a set of brand new tires for cheap, and was trying to figure out what rims to get without the problems associated with springs, calipers, steering. 2" backspacing is what I figure, but wanted to see in real application what works.
I have read several posts on the subject, but never anything mentioned about tires this wide.

Clay (toy4fun on PBB) runs 35x15.5x15's on his FJ40, he has been running them for sometime, never really heard him comment about them either way.

I have several other customers that run wider tires, don't really see any major problems with it. 2" BS wheels will place alot more stress on the trunnions...

15x12 steels 3 in back space most places will make-em... 3.5 bs off the shelf should work with 1/4 in spacers or tape wghts on the in side

I've got 38.5x14.5 tires on 15x10 beadlocks with 2" backspacing and like it. Yeah, it'll probably go thru trunions quicker, but the added width has been nice.

36x14.50 TSL radials on 15x10 aluminum wheels. They're either 3.5" or 3.75" backspacing. I run a thin spacer in the front to clear the caliper.
They work fine like this. I'm going to get some 2.5" backspaced wheels eventually to get the extra width.

I ran my 35x16wx15 with 3.5 bs with a .25 spacer when you go SOA and a hi-steer kit on the 62 you can run that same tire with no spacer. the problem with the 60-62 is the tie rod end hitting the wheel yes the caliper is close but it doesnt hit with my wheels anyway. they are 15x10 aluminium, I do know that steel wheels dont have the clearance but most of it is the tie rod end do a hi-steer kit and 3.5 or less will work.

Backing spacing......again

Now I am running 38.5 x 15 SXs on 15x10 stock Toyota Pickup back spacing type chrome rims. I think 3.5" Just put Hysteer on it but before that was just the standard welded mini truck arms for the SOA setup. Not a bit of problems. Well, I did have an ongoing problem with the inside of the tire rubbing aginst the passenger side shock(Ford Towers). That was fixed permantly when I put the new Hysteer system on and had to relocate the shock mounts on the axle. BTW, 1973 FJ40 with 2" skyjackers. stock axles.

Pick out the rims that you want or think that will fit and then go down to the tire store and see if they will mount one on you tires (only one) to see it they will work

that is what I did to see if the 35x15.5 on 15x10s rims would fit, some mods. and 1/4 spacer in the front, who needs zerk fittings in your tierod ends any way and a little rubbing on your spring and fenders
