Post Have you seen the fj40 steel tubs?

They have some over at tlc4x4.com for $1900
http://www.tlc4x4.com/2000/Parts/tlc_body_tubs.htm

Seems a little steep for just a tub, but sure beats welding a bunch of expensive body panels together. I've seen the bed only for like $450, and the rear sil (essentially a 2"x2" square tube) for like $350! that sh!t !!!!

Anyway, just thought some resto folks would like to know.

I have seen them, sinnce Jonathan brought a couple custom cruisers with these Bandirante bodies to the Toyota museum. they are nice, but the embossed panels don't look right. For $1900 plus shipping, I would just get the replacement panels and spark up the welder.

Well first off anything that costs $1900 at TLC would probably cost about $1000 anywhere else. Also where are those things from because the fuel filler thingy is on the wrong side. Pinhead I was at the Toyota Museum drvinvg the field drab FJ40 that was parked directly outside the museum's front doors.

TLC tubs include a new out of body gas tank so you must factor that in as well. Apart from the depressions, if one needs to repair a 1979 or later tub this is the only choice (since 90% of this area corrodes in late model tubs and these solve many of those issues). For earlier (1978 and earlier) it is a choice of the owner. A few more headaches in mounting so TLC was only approved installers to put them together. If you want a trail truck pure and simple this is not the way, but if you want a steel tub to last 20+ years-$1,900 is not that bad an investment.

FYI, 1979 factory crossmembers are more complex than 1978 and earlier. CCoT multi part repair pieces are $360-but the factory one piece is $425 or so......

I was thinking about its value as a restoration and it wouldn't look right with all the embossed outlines on the Bandirante body. I guess that you could fill the depressions with Bondo, but that would be a PITA rivaling welding in new panels. If you just wanted a nice steel tub to replace a rusted one, then these would be a good deal if the shipping wasn't out of line.

Hey Sloan,
I probably met you at the museum, since I talked to almost everyone, uncluding our amigo, the 60 series guy. I did enjoy looking at all the cruisers and I enjoyed checking Jonathan's new millenium SWB concept Cruisers. Now all they have to do is convince Toyota to make a lited edition production run.

atleast johnathan will talk to you like you are a human being unlike a certain shop in nor-cal. his work is honest value for what you get as far as i have seen. no cheesy backyard or garage mods for that place.
