Ive got a cool video of a Helicopter landing on the back of a Yank Navy boat, then missing it, going for another go and crashing into the water behind the boat.

You will either go to Travis AFB, CA or Dover AFB, DE if you get C-5's. Hope you get Travis AFB, Dover sucks ass... Good luck! Keep that locker tight and don't ever stop looking in your pockets for inspection tags! The tags have a mysterious way of getting in there when your locker is good.
oh, and don't forget your reporting statement "Sir, (maam) airman (>>>"dipshit"<<< ) reports as orderd" Don't say dipshit the last guy that said that was recycled to day one, two weeks into training. And give me a 349!

Good for you! My little brother just got out on MON. He was a crew chief on just about all the big lifters. He finished up on C-17s.
Very cool job. Unlike me, I felt the need to be in the infantry! One thing to look into is that over 60% of the USAF heavy transport is in the Air Guard. You get out of active duty and go guard. You then have the option of 1 weekend a month or whenever you feel like it. You get much more pay per day VS active. Basically, there is always a need for crews. Just sign on and go. My brother was making major money for almost 10 yrs doing this. Only real downside to the USAF is the bus driver uniforms you'll wear

Ok that was random.

I have a cool photo of my Great Uncle standing in Brisbane, in his US Army uniform in 1942. Helping keep the Japanese off AU soil.

For those going WTF? Here is a snipit from a history write up on WWII:
"Australia is facing the gravest hour in her history," said (Australian) Prime Minister John Curtin after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Invasion of Australia by the Japanese seemed imminent."

Cruiser content: Toyota was reluctantly supporting the Japanese war effort at this point. The CEO of Toyota thought JP could never beet the US, due to the US's industrial machine. Smart dude.

BumperJ: Good luck on your new adventure and serving your country.

BTW Thanks for savin' our ass from the Japs. Most Australians forget that the only thing standing between the Australian mainland and the Imperial Japanese Navy was a couple of American carriers and a handful of small Aussie boats. If the Battle of the Coral Sea had turned out differently......

YOu fawking Aussies are a wild bunch! When I was in the AF I was in the Special Ops side for a while and got to spend some time with some Aussie Snake Eaters. What a blast. YOu guys are always right by our side in everything. to the Aussies!

As for the Crew Chief job, that will be a blast. Good luck, you guys earn your pay putting up with dipship army troopers and retirees taking free hops around the world.

I did 11 years in the AF and loved it all.

Good luck and be careful.

I am not sure what the "that was random" quote means, and how it has anything to do with world war II. I just think the video is good, it is sorta scary, its only a couple of meg if anyone wants it emailed. About 40 seconds and nothing is surfacing It is semi-recent, non war time incident.

Anyways, yeah there is a number of arguments to do with what went on over 50 years ago, just north of our soil. When the Japs did bomb Darwin, we had nothing, so we were totally unprepared. The high up guys like the generals and stuff who big noted themselves and moved thier base from brisbane to melbourne and then formed the brisbane line, what a bunch of pussies. The ground troops will have my respect, my grandad fought in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, and I can tell you it was not easy chit. He has many photos and good stories, of the good times, but it hurts him, to tell it. He is like 89 now.

It was my personal belief that the Japanese had no real intnetion to invade Australia, I believe that thier lines were stretched pretty thin, and that they were only going as far south to Papua New Guinea to get ownership of the rich Asian oil fields to continue thier war effort on other fronts.

Anyways, I am sure I have said this before, but we stand by you guys its not like we used you or anything. We have stood by in the face of terrorist threats lately, sent our troops to the Gulf both times, we have our special forces doing the dirty work with you guys. In my opinion that is what allies do and neither country owes the other anything.

Anyways that being said, I am certainly grateful to those who fought to protect our country, our forces were limited as the British who pretty much owned us had called our troops into thier battles. Still I have done a lot of research into the Pacific battles of WWII and it is still very fascinating stuff.

Scan that picture in of your Great Uncle!

Despite how this may read, I do have the greatest respect for anyone who fought for something they believed in, particularly if it was the freedom of another country.

Good times guys!
to the seppos!!

Brisbane (BRISVEGAS) is my home town, so bring on the pics. We also have the odd US naval ships stop in on thier way to battles particularly the gulf, for resupply. Another part of our allegience, don't forget our troops are with your guys most of the time. Sometimes its just a very few of our most elite guys that go.

Either way the US troops and Naval support was without a doubt the turning point of the war in the Pacific, allowing the allied forces (US + AUS) to regain the captured islands to our north.

A couple of guys serving the military were stationed here for a few days looked up some of the guys on our local Aussie BB for when they docked in one of the southern capital cities and the guys showed them around down here for a day. Took them out wheeling and posted heaps of pics, they said they had a great time....

Keep us in mind if they stick you on a boat out this way

BJ,

That was random, means it was unexpected and had little to do with something.

Sorry bro your post just kind of caught me off guard. A friends 19 yr old son is an infantryman in Iraq right now. Just this AM I got word he is patrolling streets in Bagdad now. I then see BumperJ’s post about him all stoked to serve his country and I am thinking cool. (Flag waving here) But then a reply post about a Navy Helicopter bolstering and ending up losing it in the drink as interesting entertainment. I just took the reply the wrong way. I know you did not mean any disrespect. I also know AU is a country that has our back and has always jumped in feet first to help out when the call comes. My father is full of stories about the huge warm welcome the US Navy ships received when they stopped off in AU. (Mid 1960s) My Great Uncle was over there in 1942, I will try to find the photo I am thinking of. My Grandfather was over in Europe for 3+ years, never talked about the war. As a little kid I would ask him about his scars, and he would say "that is from a long time ago" Too painful.

To all soldiers fighting for freedom To families with military over seas Thank you,

Mark

That's great BumperJumper. I wish you the best of luck in the Air Farce.

Funny, that date rings a bell.... ahh yes, I went in the Hair Farce on September the 23....... 40 years ago to the day !

Remember,
If it moves..... salute it.
If it doesn't move..... pick it up and put it in a butt can.
If you can't pick it up..... paint it.

Oooops... forgot.... it's the NEW Air Farce..... They'll probably bring you breakfast in bed

I just found out today that if I'm able to get the crew chief job, that's where my tech training will start. From what I understood of the description, I'll have 12 weeks there, then a month of hands-on training at my first duty station.

You will probably go to San Antonio for basic then and come up to Sheppard for tech. Hope you like it hot as hell. Really it should be cooled off a bit by then at least down into the lower to mid 90's. When you get here I'll let you know where to go and more inportantly, where not to go. There are a few Cruisers down here but most of the guys with them are old farts who don't wheel them. Closest place that is good for wheeling is about 45 minutes away in Nocona. Good Luck!
