Anyone had voltage problems?
I have two FJ60's one an 84 the other an 87. The 84 is my project vehicle and the 87 is the resellable drivable doner. I have had a voltage problem several times on the 84. I was replacing the original stock alternator with a Mean Green unit a year ago and my dash guage was reading around 8 volts when the truck was running and it would just drain the battery. I checked and rechecked the positve leads and grounds and they were all ok, so I put the stocker back on and it was fine. This week I was getting more low readings on the dash guage I tested it from the output of the alternator and it was reading in milivolts (digital) so thinking my meter was incorrect, I tested it on the 87 it read 14 volts. Being that I had not sent the Mean Green unit back, I put it on today and it read in milivolts as well. Are these two alternators toast? I am going to go get the M.G. one bench tested tomorrow before I send it back( I don't want to look like a moron) I don't know what else it could be.

Reading a millivolt level signal on the B+ lug of the alternator is mighty peculiar since it should read a minimum of battery voltage at all times since it is wired directly to the battery through the fusible link. It also seems unlikely that both alternators would go bad at the same time. Sounds link you have a bad connection somewhere from the battery, fusible link to the B+ lug on the alternator. Also check for battery voltage on the IG terminal (yellow wire) with the key on. It would have been better to swap the alternator from the other 60 that you know is good.

I will check the fuseable links (when it stops raining). If they are worn or not as good as I thought, where can I get new ones? Dealer only or can I get them from Napa or someplace like that? I am bracing for the Hurricane coming so I might not be able to check out the Cruiser for a couple of days. Thanks for any information in advance.

Speaking of fusible links, Toyota doesn't make then anymore for my 82 fj40s.....pisses me off as I had to make some and if you have seen the stock links you know that it's not just one wire, it a wire here to a wire there then to another conector, works fine but doesn't look so hot
