Shackle Reversal on an FJ60?
We recently put the full on OME lift on my wife's FJ60. We also installed some 33x12.5" SSR's on the 4wheel parts rockcrawler rims. Everything works well, but the front tires rub pretty hard on the front of each fender opening with even mild articulation. I talked with her about trimming the fenders, but she is not going for it.
Sooo, I think my options are this: Add a leaf in front for a bit more lift (too stiff as it is) Longer shackles in the front (and rear to balance) for some more lift (maybe use the rear OME shackles up front as they are a bit taller) Shackle reversal using the stock spring hangers (moved from rear of front to front of front) - no lift, but the tire will move rearward during compression, instead of forward into the fender. MAF Shackle reversal - adds about 1.5" to the front lift (with front hangers that hand WAY down). May need to adjust driveline angle for this amount of lift (2.5" with OME, 1.5" with MAF SR). I have done some searching here and on IH8MUD.com and most of the info is on FJ40's which was somewhat helpful. What do you guys think? And keep in mind CruiserWench (wife) will likely go down in tire size to avoid fender trimming if it comes to that. Billster |

Also consider lowering your bumpstops to match the added lift and resetting the limiting screws in the knuckles (it will increase your turning circle, but there's worse things to worry about). Lower bumpstops will increase the life of your springs, by preventing the positive to negative cycling that fatigues them into flatness. My Alcans lasted me two years of Moab and Rubicon, and I now broke a mainleaf during an outing to the 'con
. I can rework them but it won't be free. I left my stops at stock height, and they went flat early, I think.

2" body lift. use UHMW Poly body lift kit from Roger Brown (http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4x4...yLiftKit.shtml). he'll even color 'em. we've done a bunch of 'em in TornadoAlley, two in one day. no-brainer, no downside.
