I expected him to be excited over the FJ45 but all he cares about is that 40 (Gunk Gunk, he calls it) I guess the wife was right, can't sell the 40 for the 45 because he'd never forgive me

Gunk like Junk
the noise it makes when I drive it would be...potato-potato-potato-potato (thrush mufflers and a Ultradyne cam). The 45 is making me angry too, no cash for axles and a front end hop that is bad enough that it doesn't need to be on the pavement. I did pull the top off last weekend those latches are a helluva lot easier than the 50 bolts that hold the top on the FJ40

What!! I think you might be on the wrong board to call any FJ junk. Guess I'm too nice of a guy to just say that. JUNK! really!! That's not funny in any aspect to some.

still researching the axle swap, I'm tempted to SOA the existing axles and do the work myself but I have no skillz and I believe it would be a waste of time.
FJ60 axles are around $750 and would be about 3" wider but require more fabrication. FJ55 and FJ40 axles cost about the same and should bolt up and retain stock width - availability should be good. Dana 60's would be - W I D E - & cool as hell but I'm not sure I need them under the 45. I hoped to run tires in the 37"-38" range, so TODAY I think a set of built Disc brake 40 axles would be a great swap. Since I have no money this plan will change 12,000 times in the next year while I obsess over what this truck will look like with some big meats underneath

On my 65-45 I have 76 disc break axles front and rear, with a mini truck power booster. this setup works great. Iam gathering all the parts right now to do a spring over so i can run some 37"MTRs. I also have a full floater 45 axle in the garage and an thinking about putting that in.

I'm thinking the 40 axles will be better for spares and odds of picking up a built set for somebody going full width are pretty good.
There's a non running 76-Fj40 and a 77-Fj55 in my town and I might be able to get a good deal on the axles but they would need a ton of work so I'm thinking I might be money ahead to wait for a built/locked set to come available. |

The ACTUAL use of this rig is still questionable in my mind, what LUNATIC would put Dana 60's under a FJ45 and wheel the shit out of it........ME!!! |

FUNNY!
that was the only pic I saved out of all of those. Trucks like this one are what gets me thinking...pull the bed - build a good roll hoop over the cab and hammer down is this it? |
