Post Front/rear diffs interchangeable?

I may have the opportunity to purchase two electric Toyota lockers from an 80. I have some questions because the details of these paticular diffs are hazy at best.

1. Did the 80 ever come with front and rear diff locks, or just rear?

2. Are the front and rear diffs on my 40 interchangeable given that they are stock.

P.S. A big thanks to those who have answered my questions in the past!

THe front Electric Locker is a High Pinion 8" diff like those in a Hi Lux.

THe rears work great in 40's. There are a couple of mods that you must do to make them work.

Go to IH8MUD.COM, there is a write up there that explains how it is done.

THat is a wonderful mod...jump on them now!!

Like Nolen said, get 2 rear 80 lockers. Most likely you already have a full floating rear so you're OK there. For the rear, you will need a short side axle shaft from a factory locker-equipped 40/70/60 series. Not sure if the 80 axle shaft will work. For the front get the longer side inner shaft from a locker 40/70 series. You'll also need 3 longer diff studs per axle to replace the ones on your housing. Follow the links on Lance Williams's page to find the electrical diagram for the relays, etc.

Downey Off ROad now has a kit that converts those from electric to cable lockers.

OK thats good.

Are my stock diffs interchangeable though?

The IH8mud only talks about the fitting the rear 80 locker to the front of a 40. Can I get the front locker in somewhere?

You need 2 rear lockers. Sell the front to some Hilux/4Runner guy and use the money to buy another rear <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> Another option is to get a 1992+ PZJ/HZJ7x complete front axle, then it should fit right in.
