is SOR the best and most reliable place to get a FF rear or are there other places that have them. and which year FF would i need, just an 82???

SOR sells used FF rears for $450, and Man-A-Fre also sells 'em for around the same price but they also sell rebuilt ones for a bit more. Another good place to check and see what they've got is G&S Cruiser Parts up in Vancouver, WA. They have deals now and then.

You're lookin' for one for an FJ40 right? Well, just an FYI, a 70 series axle is only like 15-20 mm wider than a 40 series one and a few people have adapted 70 series axles for under a 40--you just have to do something about the spring perches 'cause they're off that 15 mm or so. Not too bad. And if you get a 1990 or newer 70 series FF rear, you could end up with stock disc brakes with integrated park brake. Would be sweet. Good luck.
