55's rock!
you will like it, tons of space and it will surprise you off road. definately check out Jeffs 55 (dogwalker). see all the work he has done to it on the tech section of this site. also do a search on the for sale board. I think there was a guy in the bay area that was selling two.

I'm up for it, but will have to wait until my sweetie gets a job and I can afford some more parts to fix my 55 after all the fun I had with it this summer. Sierra Trek trail finally did in the leaky transfer case. Thanks to Jimmy for sellin' me his. Now all I need is some clutch parts and a little time.
In the spring we had a Swine-O-Rama in Davis thanks to Wejacks which was a blast. Scared all the little children in the neighborhood as we roared into town. The best thing about '55s IMHO is that you can carry tons of stuff into the backcountry. This photo is from my spring trip into a very remote part of Canyonlands called the Maze. 90 miles from the nearest road, you gotta take in water as well as gas. You also gotta pack it all out too... even your poo... but that's another story. <IMG width=432 height=324 SRC="http://www.pirate4x4.com/ubb/uploads/Packin' a 55.jpg"> |

We've done a few in the past. I think we had five FJ55s at Frank Raines once, maybe four at Hollister Hills another time.
Some people don't wheel their 55s, so getting them all out on the trail at the same time isn't always easy. Let's do something this fall. How about Deer Valley 9/8 or 9/9? morgan

Hey Morgan I'm ther if you can give me an xtra week or so...
Young Dog thanx for the compliment, and no it ain't bondo its spray foam under all that rust. Its what's keeping the dust out right now (sorta). I have a fairly fresh body in the backyard just waiting for me to spend some quality time on while I test the vulnerable spots with this one. I'm thinkin about Herculinering the bottom section of the beast as I seem to scratch the crap outta the sides all the time (lots of tight brush around Nevada County). |

Morgan,
It would have to be later than the 8th as I’m already booked-up. [The weekend of the 7th - boating, the 14th – trip to San Diego, 21st - projects under the house (running a gas line and water lines, etc – the wife wants the dryer hooked up ... washing machine needs to be moved to make room for the dryer ... you get the picture), 28th – taking the boyz to watch the ‘Vegas to Reno’ off-road race - that should be fun!] Sorry but I doubt September will work for me. How ‘bout some time in October? (Or go in September without me and I’ll catch the next get together.) I’m not familiar with Deer Valley, but as long as it’s not extreme I’m up for it. (I don’t want to bash-in my already rusted rocker panels, until I've cut them out and put on some protection first. Also my clutch is starting to slip a little.) So nothing like the ‘con until I’ve gone thru the pig some more. Until then, I'd like to stick in the difficulity realm of Hollister Hills. Screwzer, The bondo comment was in the ‘footer’ of my message and not directed at your 55, but mine! I’m slowly getting to it with POR 15. It just takes time ... and money. Kinda like everything else in life!

We can do one in October, November, whenever, so long as it's not in the sierras. Altho a snow run might be fun. I'm kinda tired of Hollister Hills, but maybe a run up at Cow Mountain or Mendocino National Forest would be good, especially when the ground is tacky from rain.
I'm hoping to do Deer Valley, Fordyce and or Rubicon before it gets too cold. Signed up for the Pirates' cleanup. FJ55s rock. If all goes well, maybe James' will have his new (Jeff's old) pig ready for the trail in October or November. morgan
