I sell guns...
|
post round-up thread
Even though I was only able to make it up for Saturdays events, the run was great. It was my first time to see Katemcy, I will be going back with a rig next time, but we ran a few different trails and got a pretty good tour of the place in just the 1 day.
I think everyone there enjoyed the event. Thanks to Eric, who drove his chop top 60 on 38s in from Florida to wheel, for hooking me up with a passenger seat for the trails and a meal ticket when I lost mine. PICS HERE

We (Kowboy myself and the Tornado Alley bunch) arrived late tues evening, it is a long drive thru many small towns requiring stops.....we had barely arrived inb the lot of the motel and a big friendly guy, and a young kid pulls up in a new Dodge, stuck his hand out and introduced himself as Randy, the owner of K Rocks....we made arrangements to meet at 7 Wed morning and have breakfast and he would take us out to the property so we could begin setting up.
It was not long after we arrived at K Rocks that other LSLC members began filtering in. We were set up and ready when the first guys wanted to start signing in Major props to Garth for the nicest, classiest packet any of us had ever seen. Tony Twiddy arrived with Hunter later that day, gosh what energy, he ought to come with an OFF switch!!! Tom Pennington (FJ40tom) and Kowboy discussed inspections and made ready for that to begin at 7 Thurs morning Driver meetings, inspections, and registrations went very quickly, and trail rides departed camp only 15 minutes or so behind schedule..... Edwin Kincaid, Randy Kruse (Krus-ee) and his partner Shane led the first 3 while several LSLC members hung around to catch latecomers. Midmorning those of us left in camp left on a wildcat run led by Casey Kruse, Randy's son, driving his propane powered, dual cased 85 Mini. Much later I find out the kid that led us, all day long quite capably was 12 yrs old (only in Texas)His truck experienced a propane solenoid problem on the run so he climbed in my truck, we soon caught up to Shanes run, who had way too many vehicles and was moving at a snails pace, he asked Casey (12 yrs old) to take some of his rigs another more challenging route, which we did..... We took some wagons and an open 31" tire 40 places they should not be going including one steep ass descent with a ledge and hole to the left complete with an off camber turn halfway down. it was scary to say the least. Only 2 wagons needed a tug, when they got wedged on the ends and all the tires were dangling. (Got to use my new plasma rope, and the protective abrasion guard works well.... I think the granite here offers more traction than Moab, even in the steepest ascents, there is no "Bark" only traction, and my tires show visible signs of this. Many portions remind me so much of Moab. Friday was much of the same, only Nolens hard core buddies were really having some carnage, and Kowboys " Monster Garage" on wheels was in use, with the Premier, OBA, powering grinders, air tools, weding and it got to the point guys stop asking "IF" he had a special tool, only where it was. David Dearborn broke 2 BF's, and I know of 3 rear pinions, one radiator, a couple of alternators, Klingon had fuel issues all week... Sat rolled around way too quickly and after morning runs for us involved in it........... it was the time I think all of us working on the event were a bit apprehensive about, as we have run events close to this size just fine, but had never ran the crown jewel of most, the Raffle/Dinner. Rain met us around noon, and we started exploring options, as the park has no shelter........scheduled to start at 4 Nolen and I decided by 2 we had to make a call on keeping it at KRocks or moving it. Randy Kruse had hooked my wife Deb up with a lady that owned a barn 2.8 m from the park, we stayed in the apartment at one end thru the event, and phone call got us the barn, if needed to hold the Raffle inside. Nolen and a couple of others made the call at 2 to move it.....and by 3:30 we had everything set up and ready to go at a new location, signs, and my wifes FJ60 with an event banner on the side made the turn off easy to locate. More later.........................it only gets better. Butch

I am officially exhausted... waking up at 2:30 am Saturday to get to K-rocks by 9, then wheeling all day, and partying like a rock star all night.
I have a bunch of pictures, but I screwed up copying them to cd to upload from work, so I can't share until tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for the fun time. later, mike. Last edited by mantis; 03-22-2004 at 06:11 AM. |

i just wanted to say that this was one of the best events i have been too. lots of wheeling and lots of cool cruisers and people. i'd also like to thank kowboy and his rolling work shop. it really helped me fix my 14bolt in a timely mannor. also i want to thank edwin for letting me use his welder to weld up my detroit locker. Jim (big red TJ and i don't know his last name) jumped in and started pulling axle shafts while i was working on pulling the diff cover and diff. there were alot of great people there ready and willing to jump in and help and i didn't even ask. not only did i get it fixed but i got it done in plently of time to get a good nights sleep and i was ready to wheel th next day. thanks guys.

I too had a great time. The LSLC did a great job!
Here is a pic of my juck on "High 5 Hill." I got stuck and had to winch out.... I guess I could have used wider axles.... You can see Edwin's truck in the backgound going up to winch me out.
