Lift for FJ40

Should I go see my local spring guy for work on my FJ40 springs. Want to raise it 2-4" could probably do for $200 or less. Or should I wait and do the spring over? 4" is probably as high as I would ever go.????? Truck has a 305 and original tranny and case.

Will probably run 33's or 34's for tread.

Thanks
Jmc

Depends what you want to do with it, a SO will flex and ride much better than lift springs, but will probably put you a little higher than you want.

Lift springs may be a good place to start if your goal is to fit bigger tires.

straight up , you can not do the soa with the springs and shackles you have for less than $200. Even throw in the front shackle rev. at same time . you can do it in the driveway if you have a welder , grinder , angle finder , and various hand tools. All you gotta buy is , rent a big pipe cutter for the cut & turn , and some gas and wire for welder , plus about 6 cut off wheels for grinder , and some new spring perches and shocks.. you reuse the front spring hangers , steering stops , shock mounts , and brake lines and brackets. Fab some new rear shock mounts , weld tubes in frame for shackle rev. , get a hi-steer arm for the passenger side , get drivelines made , and your are done . Now that I recall my project it prolly comes to about $ 500.00 or a little less once you buy all the above mentioned stuff. And all the labor is yours , all of it , and then people look at it and go , who did that ? and you are afraid to answer cause you don't know if they are gonna say , hey cool , or , what a hunk a chit that looks like. Do it yourself , do it right , and pimp it for what its worth...... run what ya brung....

slight thread hijack. sorry-
I have a probably dumb shock question about taking the rig SOA from stock. Do you need new shocks if you locate them in roughly the same place as they were originally? IE- mount on / near the U-bolt plate above the axle.
I actually have a 2" lift springs with 2" shackle lift. Would I probably be okay for a little while before buying new shocks?
