I will start with an apology in case anything that follows offends you. If you do indeed have a 64 F135 siamese-ported F engine, 'on the cheap' is not an option! Parts for these are getting scarcer all the time. The aftermarket pretty much gave up on this motor years ago, and Toyota doesn't seem to care much any more either.
Some parts interchange to the later engines, some don't. There are 2 different kinds of valves for the F135, one of which is obsolete. Valve seals are also obsolete. Head and manifold gaskets are TOTALLY different. I run this motor in both my 65 FJ45 pickups, so I spend a fair amount of time looking for stuff to keep them going. You can get burned very easily on rings, for example. Most aftermarket mfgrs only list one type of rings for the F engine, when in fact there were two. Most places will not accept rings for return, even if it is their mistake. Ask a lot of questions first. My advise: unless you are a real purist, ditch this motor for a newer one. You can find running F's and 2Fs pretty cheap thru this board. If you are a purist and can't afford to do it 'right' now, swap motors anyway, and fix up your F135 slowly. It's a labor of love. Mark

i was told the f engine is the same from 1959 to 1967 , but sounds like you know alot more then most. how do i know what rings i need and what head i have. the numbers on the engine match the vin tag on my 64 land cruiser.
its way to nice for me to change the engine 80,000 orig. miles . lets say im going to spend the money for the rebuild kit where should i get it from . thanks |

I don't hink anyone makes a "kit" for this engine any more. You will have to piece mill parts to get what you need...........It will be expensive! Probably cost the same or more $$ to put a 350 in than rebuild the 1F. The cheapest route would be installing a 2F to replace it. You can still get kits for the 2F, but your still looking at over a grand for parts.......Don't forget you still have to factor in machining costs.
I have an 1F in my 62, and it was real fun to find misc parts to get it going. I just located valve stem seals for it, and thats the last of the parts I was needed........I hope!!! Good luck!
