Stumped! Searching for a/c compressor help for an apparently unusual 83 FJ60...
Mine went bad sometime ago, and I figured it was time for a complete rebuild along with conversion to R134a. Like a dumbass however, I tossed the compressor/clutch assembly as both were going when I took them out, and I had gotten a line of a good used assembly. What I didn't realize until now is my setup was unusual in that the comp., along with the alternator and p/s was ran off a single fan belt to a two-belt engine pulley. (The fan layout on mine is the a/c at 10 o'clock, the alternator under it at 9 o'clock, and the p/s at 2 o'clock running to the engine crank pulley.)
The used comp/clutch combo I got is in excellent shape too, looks like all the others I've seen and it *should* have fit like a bolt in. It simply doesn't however using any any method I've tried to bolt it in: it either makes the clutch too far inward to mount to the engine arm or too far towards the radiator to mate up with the alternator and p/s pulley's. I've tried installing it where the 'stock' one was, and also swapping the alternator positions as well, but can't seem to come up with a location that works. My old comp. did not have markings on it, but did have the a/c high/low ports on the very back of the compressor; the one I purchased (and seems to be the one I see on most cruisers near this model year and in most books and even on SOR) has the ports on the side/length of the compressor near the a/c line connections. Every indication I have is that the a/c system on it's whole was stock on my 60, as all the other a/c system parts seem to be correct down to the switchs and controls. Could it be that my crusier's a/c was installed by the dealer rather than factory? I'm stuck; any help on what the !@&$!$! 'stock' version I have is or any idea of the a/c compressor would be a great help. Shoot, any assistance or advise is *greatly* appreciated in any form however. Cruc

I can't beleive you tossed out the old parts before receiving the new ones! Anyways, sounds like your 83 had the dealer installed "York" pump like my 82 does. If thats the case, you're bracketry will not work. You'll need to find the brackets off a donar rig. I beleive an 84 would have what you need for sure.

Thanks guys!
Thinking I was good to go about the new pump/clutch is why I got rid of the old knowing it was bad anyway-I knew I was an ahole as soon as I tried to mount the 'standard' pump and clutch and it didn't work The info on the York pump is very helpful indeed-I didn't know there were two different versions, and perhaps if I can locate a model number of that pump I can locate one somehow for this or from another application (was the standard '82 pump/clutch the York? or was it only dealer installed systems? Beuller?) Specter shows only what appears to be the 'other' model, and doesn't offer the bracket at all-new or used, nor can I find any info on the differences of the 82 (and some? 83) bracket vs. 84 and up to even be remotely sure that may work with what I have. Dog walker-is your belt layout the same as mine and does it only use one belt for all of those accessories? Cruc

Stumper, my apologies for taking so long to reply to your generous offer-I got a line on a dual v-belt pulley compressor that may work, and didn't want you to go through any trouble to even check on anything until I knew I was getting it. I won't have it for a couple weeks to know one way or the other; I may contact you if that doesn't work if that's okay.
Thanks again. Cruc
